The British Sugar Glider Organisation was thought up by Ceri and myself, but because of one thing or another has never really gone any further than a thought. But this year I plan to set the wheels in motion. I want the BSGO to be a reputable organisation, I want reputable breeders, vendors, lots of information. I guess it will be focused around the forum, it's a good place to be, friendly, good info. So if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to post.

Wasn't there a European sugar glider association at some point? How about pooling resources with some of the old members?

Lol, the ISGA is practically defunct now. I considered becoming a member but didn't want to be associated with such an organisation that recommends tying off as a recommended method of neutering.
And TBH, Mr A gives some bad advice and tells lies about me too, I've removed any reference to him off my website! According to him I'm a 17 year old kid who knows nothing about sugar gliders!! nope Despite the fact he knows I'm not as we've met on a number of occasions!!! What more can I say?

Oh my -.-! Such a shame you could not get your heads together and discuss the issues you agree and disagree on, if you both have such a strong passion for the same animals. Animal care is such an emotive subject, I suppose its difficult to get everyone agreeing on their care. I know it is with reptiles, so I imagine the same problems occuring with exotic animals too. (Mind you thats a nice compliment if he thinks you look 17 )

To be honest, Mr A is in my opinion, a breeder for the wrong reasons... I'm sure most will realise what I am saying!! I purchased my first gliders from him and was told to use a wire wheel not a wodent, and then handed a sealed nesting box containing 2 gliders that had never been introduced before and were in the process of trying to kill each other... the only gliders I actually got to see where the 2 week old babies being kept beside the till that were hauled out to show me how well they were being hand reared!

i think this could work really well. Another idea, something which Degutopia has started doing. Creating a register of the giders in the uk and providing "certificates" with their registration number etc.

Fair enough, people have disagreements on care, sure they do, but to tell bare faced lies about me is totally uncalled for! Especially when he's supposed to be a friend of Rich's! I agree with Terry to be honest, breeder for the wrong reasons. He doesn't have any contact with his suggies other than raiding the nest for joeys. Anyway - this isn't a bash the breeder post, so come on ladies, back on topic

I have only just spotted this post and although as Marie has said it is not for bash the breeder, I have to add my comments and support to Marie as I was the one who Mr A bad mouthed her to only last week. Mr A gave ridiculous advice to us which conflicted with everything I had read, he promoted himself as a world reknowned expert on Gliders and a zoologist (pah) then went on to say things about Marie that were untrue and uncalled for. I am not surprised to hear other people have had bad experiences with him, I also believe that he doesn't give a monkeys what happens to his gliders after they have left his shop. Even though he has supplied sugar gliders for 20 odd years, he stocks not one specific glider product in his shop (isn't that curious) we were sold calcium supplement for reptiles and nectar for parrots. I would warn anyone thinking about trading with this man, think again. John

To bring this thread back on track, I think the BSGO is a great idea and I cant think of a better person than Marie to lead it. I think that it should contain lists of reputable breeders, accurate information and advice before buying through to owning caring, breeding etc. I also think that one of the primary objectives should be to help prevent these delightful little creatures being offered for sale in ordinary pet shops by unknowledgable and unscrupulous people and flooding the nation with them as has already happened in America.
I know it is an old joke but this is true. I once bought an African Grey parrot from a pet superstore, within a week it had died from deficiencies caused by improper diet. I made a big noise about this at the time and as a result, to my knowledge these superstores have reviewed their practices and no longer sell Parrots or exotic species.
