For those who are interested in some SERIOUS marsupial reading and learning, here are a few books out of my bookcase to get you started.

The first one, and one of my favourites is The Life of Marsupials.  It has a very good section on Sugar Gliders and in my opinion is probably the best book.

Next is Marsupials, expensive but again very good.

Then there's Walkers Marsupials of the World, not brilliant but there's a gorgeous picture of a baby striped possum, soooooooo cute!!

There's Reproductive Physiology of Marsupials which is very in depth and I think written in a foreign language (science speak - lol!)

And the good old Marsupial Nutrition which is again in depth and written scientifically.  Undecided

And there's Digestive Physiology and nutrition of Marsupials

And the final one in my bookcase is Marsupial Biology: Research, New Perspectives

HINT: If you do decide to purchase any of the above books always check Amazon.com first, they're usually alot cheaper even with postage!!

I've stickied the thread but left it open to replies so that others can add their recommendations. Smiley

I recommend Animals In Translation by Temple Grandin, Ph.D.

Now this is interesting. I picked up a second hand copy of Life of Marsupials by Hugh Tyndale-Biscoe and it's a totally different book to the one currently for sale. I thought it was just an earlier version with a cover change, but the contents and chapters are totally different. This one is a contemporary biology and is a student text book. Now I have to go out and find the other one by him. Fancy one author having two different books with the same name !!

No it appears this is the original version of the book which is freakily is totally different and written as a student text book for marsupial biology. Must buy the new version to compare as even the chapters are totally different.

How funny. Maybe an unaware editor titled the second book.

Marsupial, what's the ISBN of the original book that you have.  It's by the same author but I think the latest one is the 'new and improved' version.

Yes checked it out..it is the original version. The author just rewrote the entire book when he updated it. It seems this one sells for quite a few dollars on the net still ! Amazing what you can pick up for $7.50US in a second hand book shop. Guess I will have to buy the newer version now.

Here's a book that isn't about gliders, per say, but kangaroos and wallabies...

It's called "Macropods: Thier Care, breeding, and the Rearing of Their Young" by David McCauley.  I bought it when I was staying in Texas (the author only lived down the road, so I actually bought it from him face to face) and it includes an interative cd. Smiley Very interesting read!!

Marsupial I'd quite like to track that book down, do you have a link to a copy of it?  Or can you give me the ISBN so I can do a search for it please?

Didn't really take much looking  Cheesy But have a look on http://www.davesanimalfarm.com/.  I contacted him from there, spoke to him on the phone, and ordered it at the same time.  I am pretty sure you can just order it through there, though. Smiley
