been trying to find out on the net for a friend but can't find what i'm looking for...

How do you tell if the joey is female or male?
(Male joeys don't have the scent gland do they?)

Help!  Smiley

How old is the joey?  Scent glands don't appear until they're around 6 months OOP.  Males have visible testicles, we call them pom poms because they look like pom poms!  At three to for months old they can be quite well hidden by the fur on the belly.  Females have a split (which is the pouch) on the belly. Testicles are there as soon as they come out of pouch, well, the scrotum is and it is visible.  The testes have dropped by about 70 days OOP.

If there are no visible pompoms, then they are female and will have a pouch...  Surely this is pretty basic knowledge for somebody who's breeding, though...  Huh

Most breeders place their joeys at 8-10 weeks. By that time (and even earlier), the sex of the joey is very clear. That is unless the joey is the victim of much inbreeding and then occasionally a hermaphrodite glider results w/very undefined sexual organs. Hopefully this is not the case here.
