Hiya, thinking of getting some suggies later in the year, but I have a few questions.

I know the recommended minimum cage sizes, but what sort of cages do people use for their gliders, brand makes and so on (or any pics if homemade?) Can you suggest any good features for a cage to have? I've been looking at a massive cage designed for small parakeets, its hideously expensive but if I start saving I shouldnt feel the pinch too much when I buy it!

Would anyone happen to know of any breeders North of the border? I'm willing and able to travel but if I can find a reputable breeder closer to home it would make things much easier for me, as I'm still quite new to driving and a long distance motorway trip would probably be a bit much for me at the moment!

Are gliders particularly noisy as a rule of thumb? Not in response to handling, just generally day to day? I can dont mind the odd shrill noise but with the thin walls in our place I'd imagine the neighbours wouldnt be pleased with constant racket. I already get funny looks when I take the ferrets out and bring boxes of crickets in LOL.

And any tips on finding a decent vet, seeing as none in my area are likely to have seen gliders before?

I made my last cage which was 6ft 10x3ftx2ft out of 1x1wood (which I polyvarnished 5 times) and plastic coated mesh, Foufou has it now.  The cage I use now is a big viv I made with wilow trellis on the walls and mesh on the ceiling, branches etc.  Pics are on here http://www.sugar-lumps.com/forum/index.php/topic,1139.msg9012.html#msg9012  and my old cage is on here  http://www.sugar-lumps.com/forum/index.php/topic,765.msg5178.html#msg5178

Any cage you buy watch the bar spacing isnt to big.

No they are not very noisy, they may bark now and then in the night but I live in a flat and dont feel its loud enough to disturb any of my neighbours.  I dont hear the wheel at all now they are in a viv but could hear it before but I am a very light sleeper.

Look on the vet link here http://www.sugar-lumps.com/forum/index.php/board,24.0.html
to see if any are in you area if not its a case of ringing around.

Good luck.

Wow, it looks great, quite naturalistic. Vivs are something I can make no bother too! Thanks for your help.

mine havent been too noisey - live in a terrace (so know my next door neighbours taste in music and work hours by what you hear through the walls) as yet no complaints from them and Ive had phil and lil 3 months at least!

she has barked a few times (like a small terrior) and they crab when they are bickering but in terms of volume it is average conversational range (unless they are really unhappy!)

mine are downstairs and I rarely hear them when I am in bed unless they really crab, and the wheel hasnt been an issue
I have occasionally heard banging (phil likes to swing a piece of wood on string against the bars!) but again nothing disturbing!

if it is any help
in mid feburary I will be coming up to near st andrews by train (brother is there) (and it stops at edinburgh waverly) so with careful planning I could maybe deliver animals if you can arrange to get some from someone on here who is hapy to get them to me (midlands)
and if people on her dont think the 5 hour train journey (and changes) will upset them to much,
I have a carry case I could clean and use to bring any up

(I am not a breeder hence why i am only saying I could be a courier! not provider of suggies!)

no probs!
wont say any time as to far away to know what my plans are then!
but you never know!
and sensible to take your time to make good plans

had strop with trainline as by spliting the journey (ie same journey but booking it in 2 parts) and getting singles  instead of returns was 40 quid cheaper!
criminal that you have to  do it that way and the site doesnt give you the cheap options! grrr

Yeah train fares arent half a rip off. I'm so used to being able to walk everywhere that I resent paying for transport lol.
