Has anyone witnessed this?  I have one pair that carry strips of shredded paper in their tails and stuff it in to their sleeping pouch, I honestly have NO idea how they fit in the pouch too as it's stuffed full!!  It's the typical single strand of paper in a curled tail, it is cute but the thing is, the nest builders are both male!!  None of my other suggies do this!  Sooooooo, does anyone know if the males are exclusively the nestbuilders?

I've heard of other gliders that carry bits to the nest to line it. Was reading last night that wild gliders that live in the cooler regions of Australia line their nest holes w/very thick layers of leaves for insulation.

My boys have gone crazy, it must be very cramped in their pouch!!  Is it just the males that do it though?  I've never seen any of my others doing it!

I don't know - I have read that males do this. Their little contribution to the parenting process!

I have noticed that my male and any older babies do it.  Like they are trying to help out their Mother.  Also, we bought them a budgie toy AGES ago that is basically rings of bamboo linked together with a bell at the end.  Well, they wrap the last link in their tail and try their hardest to get it into the nest box... When they realised it wouldn't reach, they chewed the bottom ring off and tried that way.  Of course it doesn't fit, so back to wrapping the new bottom ring in their tail to take to the nest box.  This is a neverending cycle and they are down to one link left.  And I can't find a replacement ANYWHERE!!!  I even went to P@H (where we got it in the first place) and their response was that they've never had anything like that?!?  Roll Eyes  The only things I've found are plastic and seem rather heavy, so they wouldn't be able to lift the links in their tail, so would be pointless for the reasoning behind getting a new one... Anybody seen anything similar?  Huh

My male gliders have started doing this w/eucalyptus leaves. I guess they just weren't old enough??? I don't know. They carry the leaves in their tails to the pouch.

When I had our home-made cage in The States, we had a big fake plant in the bottom and the gliders would peal the "leaves" off the "stems" and carry those in their tails to their pouch. Tongue

My male is an obssesive nest builder he is constantly searching for somewhere to build 1. We so far have had to remove one from on top of the curtains which was made of bits an pieces (and was pretty rubbish really) His fav place is inside the sofa arm(which is a pain in the arse) Once he feels his nest is finished he barks at Will until she comes over. Needless to say she is never impressed and always goes back to the poach. Poor Wisp!!!

The older glider of my pair wraps toys in her tail and just basically goes round in circles on the top of the cage trying to get it to where ever she wants it, which isn't always in her pouch! It can look quite funny as I'm sure sometimes she forgets shes got a hold of something and can't quite fully understand why she keeps getting stuck! Cheesy Bless her lol.
