Is anybody else having problems getting hold of papaya's at the moment? I shop @ Asda and they do have them but they look awful! Usually when I get them they are orange inside with bits of yellow round the edge. I cut one open last night and it was all yellow inside and I was unsure whether to give it or not, so instead I had to make something without papaya because I didn't want to risk it! I am going on a hunt for papaya today

Tesco's here has loads in stock - or at least they did on Saturday so you should be able to get them in most stores!
I find papaya is pretty hit and miss on the quality no matter where I buy it! :mad

Is tinned papaya suitable if it's in natural juice or is it always best to buy fresh and whole?

the frozen stuff looses most of its vit and mineral content. i would just wait till you get some better ones in at your super market, we all use it but when i cant get any i cant get any so the food changes.

local market or any ethnic supermsarket if you have asian or caribbean areas
and I sometimes get from asda if they arent too bruised are ok but should be pinky orangey pink inside often the asda ones are a little hard (probably bought under ripe to ripen here) so look green or yellow outside but seem to be ok inside!
I gave up in the end and now always use papaya as couldnt get the balance right without it even using high ratio things llike figs and squash!

Well I have managed to get another from asda which looks better so fingers crossed! I am running low on frozen mixes but they are on a batch of this tonight which has papaya in, hopefully got some good enough to make a some new frozen batches tomorrow. i don't really have any ethnic supermarkets around and will only ever get fresh fruit and veg for them so will have to travel around if it happens again!

Luckily the one I bought yesterday was ok and the right colour inside! I do have a tesco near by, well two actually (why they think we need three supermarkets in such a small area I will never know, and they are building two more!!) So I will look there in the future! Thanks for the advice, I just didn't know what to do when it was all yellow, never seen them like that before!
