Hi My name is amanda. My boyfriend and I just got our first sugar glider 2 days ago. He is such a cute little boy! He is 4 months old. We are playing to get him nuetered here soon. We also would like to get him a buddy down the road, we both plan on playing with him and spending alot of time with him till we get a buddy.
Any input/advice would be great. Thanks

Hiya, Amanda! Welcome to suggie lumps!
But you need to get your little man a friend as soon as possible, really... Not just "down the line". No matter how much time you spend with him, it will never be as good as the company of another glider. Even handreared gliders need their own kind and will start to self mutilate due to stress.

okay, I will def. start looking now for one. We were going to wait to get this one until we got could get two, but we found him very close and fell in love when we saw him. plus his owners didnt do much with him. We got him with his cage, and there was NO toys or anything in it. He came with his cage and a hamster ball but nothing else!

He should only have been removed from him mother recently... Did they breed him? I wouldn't put him in the hamster ball at all, but you can hang it up in his cage to make a little nest like thing. What is his diet like? There is a list of approved breeders on here, if you'd like to have a looksee...

No his previous owners didnt breed him. The man ( younger ) said he got him from a pet store. Him and his wife are in the Army and dont have time for him, which they should have never got him in the first place, the poor thing was scared and shaking when we got him home.
As far as his diet, Im not really sure. that sounds horrible of me. My boyfriend does that part, I just clean his cage, play with him and give him fruit! Im trying to get as much information as I can, as for the same with him. We have been researching sugar gliders for a while now before we actually went and got one. Plus finacially, we didnt have the money before, but now we do ha.
We are locating in Delaware. Which as far as Im being told by everyone here and high up in the state here, they are legal. So If anyone knows otherwise, let me know.

A pet shop strikes again... *sigh* He was probably removed from his mother WAY too early for his owners to have already gotten bored of him Have a really good read through the diet stickies as once you get that down, you'll be in the right direction for a happy and healthy glider! Well, this is a UK based glider forum, so you won't get any help for finding a breeder to get another furbaby from here... But I'll have a nosey around on the tinternet and see what I can find

Just cuz most of us are in the UK, doesn't mean you aren't welcome here! *lol* I just meant that none of our approved breeders will be able to help you in your search for a friend for your little'un I don't know whereabouts in Delaware you are, so I've been searching for your surrounding states, too (since Delaware is sucha small one)... http://www.petclassifieds.us/index/listings/page76028.htmWill keep looking

Okay, good! Ha I havent found many active forums. i dont want to join the other forums and have it takes months for people to answer me. and yes delaware is very small.
But I have a question....we got a tent last night and took our suggie into it last night for the first time. HE loved it! He was so playful and waas running and jumping everywhere. Now last night we put him back in his cage. and he seems to be just sitting there...he was moving around last night when we were sleeping bc he made a mess with his food, but for about an hour last night after we put him back into the cage, he sat there.then we went to bed. but this morning, he was sitting in the same spot, just sitting there. any suggestions or what is wrong?

Hmm... Hard to say without seeing his set up... Do you have cats (or other animals that he could see as a predator)? He doesn't have anybody else to keep an eye out for predators (one of the reasons they need company), so he may be lonely... http://www.granitestategliders.com/id3.html

Well, he's been alone since he was taken from his mother... And there's no telling how long ago that was... Poor little man If you upload pics onto a server site (I use photobucket.com), then copy and paste the link that starts with [IMG] here
