what Mark said, stick with your tent time as its a smaller area so easier to put him back into the cage after out time, once hes more bonded to you guys then you can go for a bigger room but chasing around an unbonded glider will revert your stages of the bonding process back to zero as he will be scared of you. so stick with the tent time for a few weeks.

If your glider is male does he have his scent gland on his head yet? or on his chest? this will be able to give you a rough idea on his age as the scent gland normally appears 6-8 months but sometimes not until 12 months, if your gland has appeared he may be closer to the 6-8 month mark but thats not always the case some can be young developers.

yeah we are def. going to stick to tent time.

I have no idea about his scent gland, Im very new to this.

also, I reaad about people having a messy eater, and making a small kitchen, well two nights ago I did that, but he seems to make more of a mess with the kitchen then before.

any ideas on how to change that? or is it possible to change it?

I just deal with the mess, honestly... *lol*

You can tell if his sccent glands have appeared or not by the presence (or absence) of a bald patch where each gland is.  If they have developed, he'll have a very sexy bald spot.

i havent got any SG yet but im getting a pair soon with the help of these guys on the forum

ive told them my limited research and they have agreed i have vague idea of what to expect *i think lol*

the only thing i can say is get another and start the introduction process ASAP!!! if not then your SG will get lonely, i enjoy going for a drink and a meal with my friends so its no different for any animal Smiley

also the shipping doesn't sound as good but they seem to do it humanely, they place the SG in a travel cage then place it in a heated cargo chamber on the plane, so its all nice and snug then delivered to your door

i've researched and built a portfolio on SG as pets, i haven't got any experience except the XP thats been spread through the internet, SL is definetly the best website i've come across for information

the kitchen idea from tillie is genius this'll keep the mess down from flinging food and should help with your overcleaning lol

like amalthea, mark and pretty much everyone has said read the stickies in the forum list, read every topic about housing, diet, bonding EVERYTHING on SG on this forum then ask the questions you don't understand

i was worried about getting a pair cause i thought it was all confusing and over my head, but when you sit down take a deep breath and read you think afterwards..huh..and it all makes sense

i don't know where my place is to say anything after not having any Sad *not yet* but i have done research..ALOT of research lol and i enjoy SG which is why im excited to give them a life of happiness when they arrive

also they look so darn cute, even as a bloke you get teary eyed watching them

remember go back to basics and start from there, you need to spend more time with them, the more effort you put at the begginning the more rewards there will be

tent time should be every night, for like 3-5 hours a day?? *am i right or wrong guys*

place some old clothing in their cage so they can relate to your scent

i think thats quick rundown of your questions..oh and amaltheas right, there is NO such thing as instant SG food, well none that people have recommended anyway..and by people i mean not one person

please can someone make sure im right on some of this stuff as i have just got in from a night on the town for a mates birthday and im proud of my neat drunken typing lol

but is what ive wrote alright?? xx

guys big problem.

so here is the deal. My boyfriend reallly wanted this animal, and begged for him.
Well he is enlisted in the AF and they recently ( two days ago ) changed his hours. This opens a whole new world. It means that he will be working from early afternoon, until very early am, and then sleeping, and going back to work. I guess what I am getting at is, we are debating if this what a good pet for us. He had plenty of time before they changed his hours.

Any suggestions or anything, pleaseee help. I want the best possible for this little guy, even if its not the pet for us
please help!!

Growing up in a USAF family (both parents were active duty when I was a kid), I know what they are like.  And I know that they can completely change everything around on you at the drop of a dime.  So, maybe a glider isn't right for you...

How about a couple rats?  They don't care when you play with them as long as you play with them.  Males absolutely LOVE to cuddle and females like to play and get into trouble.  And they really aren't bothered about being woken up for their daily snuggles and play time.

I've made this reply on GG (can't be bothered to type it out again  Roll Eyes)

I think from having read the other thread and this one I do believe that maybe a suggie isn't for you (your boyfriend), afterall, it's your boyfriend's pet yet you're the one that has joined the forums to learn about them. There will come a day when you will need to handle the suggie, such as if he becomes sick or gets all tangled up on a pouch - something like that, and if you're afraid of him then that's going to be an issue.

Sugar gliders are wonderful pets but they're NOT for everyone, and if you're having doubts then I think the kindest thing you can do is let him go to someone else who does have the time, patience and nerve to give him the home he needs and deserves. But, please, please, please DO tell them he's crabby so possibly hasn't been socialised enough, don't sell him to a newbie else he will (probably) be passed from pillar to post.

No one is judging you and I'm certainly not having a go, you just need to do what is best for Joey and for you (and your boyfriend!).
