Sorry forgot to say i have two gliders, one male and female and will be a new proud parent in a few weeks with a new addition a female not related to the other two. I have had Gliders for 16 months and run eductational programs in schools about sugar gliders. I'm always intersted in learning more from others. I'm a member of The Marsupial Society of Victoria and have just completed a Nursing and Wildlife management course.

It's interesting to meet an Australian glider owner, as I was under the impression they weren't legal to keep as pets in their native land! Shows what I know, huh? *lol* Welcome

I noticed in the wikipedia that it says that it is illegal to own Sgugar Gliders as pets in Australia. I intend on changeing this as it is legal in most states of Australia as long as you have a licence. Thanks for the welcome, I hope I can give you some factual information.

One of my dreams is to see gliders in the wild... Or at least hear them! Australia has been my dream destination since I first started looking into getting gliders (I was 10... am 23 now). It WILL happen one day!

Wikipedia can be great, but it has it's accuracy issues. We're glad you are here to give us the native/glider homeland perspective!

Thought you might be intersted to know that although Gliders live in my neigbourhood and surrounding suburbs in the wild, I have never seen a wild Sugar Glider in my life. One of the local schools often finds the tails of Sugar Gliders after an Owl has eaten them but again not many would have seen one in the wild. They are timid towards people unlike our native possums who would be considered to be a pest and eat out of your hands. We have several that live in our yard and sleep in our roof.

Do you at least hear them at night? That would suffice. Possums, too!! I just love your native animals!

I think that this is a very important statement that we all need to remember in relation to keeping these animals in captivity. People often think that they are friendly toward humans and take it personally when it takes months to make friends with them. Thanks, Alfalfa!
