Bit of a long story but here goes.  I had a suggie on rescue who I called Edie, she's a little sweetie, she came to me because she had previously suffered very bad HLP and she's a very submissive girl so was bullied by her cage matea nd wasn't allowed to eat.

I kept her on her own for a while to gain weight and become an all round healthy and larger animal before I introduced her to another suggie - I didn't want to put her in with one of my larger gliders.  She's fit and healthy now so I introduced her to a cage mate who overnight savaged her, obviously I seperated her immediately and treated the wound.  But before I introduced her and one of the reasons I decided to do it at that point was because she had lost the hair off the end of her tail.

So, back to square one, Edie was on her own!  The wound healed, and I decided to put her in with my trusty hand reareds, Dinx had been on her own for over 3 years but had accepted Lily and Molly immediately.  They had all immediately accepted a new cage mate too, that very same night they were all sleeping together so I thought there wouldn't be any problem, and there wasn't really.

After putting them together Edie slept in a seperate pouch for a couple of nights, but since then they've all snuggled up together happily.  There's never any conflict over food, no problems at all, except Edie's tail has got alot worse.  It was just missing the hairs on the end one night, and the next night half her tail was missing fur (not completely bald).

Lily was an overgroomer when she was a baby, I was quite worried about her at one point, but now she has a beautiful coat, no over grooming at all.  Do you think she's turning her attention on Edie now?  Is Edie not settling as well with the others as I thought she was?  What the heck is going on?  Sad my poor little Edie.  Huh

My Rocky boy's tail seems to be doing something similar...  He had a rough start in life (I'll make a full post about it eventually, cuz it'll take a bit to type it all out), but he seemed to be doing great!  And was perfectly healthy for the past 3 years or so.  And recently the fur on his tail seems to be getting thinner and thinner...  Confuzzled...  Huh

It could very possibly be a cagemate overgrooming her. Or it could be stress related? If she's had a bit of a ride thus far, she could be suffering stress-related balding.  Undecided

I'm not really sure, as I've never had to deal with this.

Have you ever seen lil' Lily grooming Edie? She might be going at the damaged tail if it feels a little abnormal with scarring or something.  Huh

Fortunately it's not down to the skin and it's starting to look a little fluffier now, I think she's a sensitive soul and it's probably stress related, from being bullied to on her own to bullied again to 4 friendly cage mates bless her, it's probably stressful for her!

Her and Dinx seem to have become firm friends which is great!  Cheesy
