Hiya!

I'm just messaging for the first time. My three little friends moved in a few months ago and seem really happy and healthy. My girl whos name is so far undecided for several reasons, was pregnant when she came and the joeys are now almost a month OOP and are amazing! They seem really happy and healthy and are really tame... they love to come out to play and fall asleep in my hand, its the coolest thing ever! lol

I'm not sure I will be able to let them go but they are both boys and as I already have two boys and a girl I'm not sure i have room for everyone! That said I am making plans for a bigger home for them... not sure.

Anyway, as i have been dropped in at the deep end a little any advice, hints and tips are greatly appreciated about joeys or grown ups. I'm especially interested in any cool food ideas as i like to keep their diet varied and would be great know what you guys feed your sugies... i'm off for a nosey at the topics but hope to get a few messages with some useful tips soon! Smiley

Hi Leigh - welcome to suggie lumps, and the wonderful world of being owned by gliders!   Grin

There's loads of information on the board about diet, bonding, breeding etc.  In fact, if you look in the getting started section you can download my care guide (in PDF format) which you might find useful.  There's also a mini diet plan at the end of it.   Smiley

Been reading through some messages and posts about breeding etc. I'm not too worried because I really struggled to find any in Manchester and ended up adopting from Liverpool. Its never about the money but it really is one of the most rewarding things i have ever done... watching them grow so quickly and how they come out in the evening and bound about and then run back to me when they realise they have gone a bit too far and then fall asleep on me is just amazing! I'd rather they be neutered and have a new cage than let them go to anyone who wasn't clearly going to love them... they are my little friends!

And Mark, I feel for you getting grief from the girls... they love a guy with a heart really. :0)

Please don't tell me off for having babies so soon... I didn't know it was going to happen and I think I'm doing a pretty good job... If you knew you me you wouldn't be concerned... honest... I breed chameleons and so I know all about high maintenance. Smiley

I will take some pics tonight when they wake up so you can have a look and tell me if you think they look OK. Smiley

Also, there is so much info on here and if this has been answered before sorry... it would take a month to read all the posts.... My guys have always gotten on really well, never any problems with fighting and they are pretty tame as they are still getting used to me I guess... the occasional drop of honey, a giant meal worm or cricket buys a little love and attention mind you. Smiley

They live in my room and we talk allot although I am letting them out now an again as they get more friendly, anyway the other night they were making lots of scary noises and seemed allot more jumpy than normal and there was allot of mating going on too.... one of the guys is clearly the dominant one and it was him and the female... i checked everyone out and kept the joeys out with me for a while until things calmed down... nobody is hurt and all is well again now... please don't tell me off for asking this... do the females come into season and could that have inspired this mad one off night? Is that why this happened or is it something that could continue? I know for someone who has joeys thats a really basic question but its one thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned in any of my books or care sheets and they have only been here for a few months. There only so much you can learn from books which is why this place is so good.. along with experience.

Anyway, I have written allot so I'll stop now but i'm like a sponge as far as anything suggie related goes so hope to get some replies soon! Smiley

Hiya, A female sugar glider’s cycle is about 29 days so yes maybe there was some dominance issues going on.  Was they balling up? 2 intact males with a female is never a good idea, will you be able to get 1 or both adult males neutered?  It usually costs approx £35-£40.  If you keep the joeys I would also get them neutered at around 10 weeks oop.
Cause we wont be mad at you for them having joeys, its the seller that shouldnt have rehomed them with joeys ip...the same happened to me.  Unfortunately the stress of the move/new owner caused mine to reject their joey and she died, you have been lucky.
Can you not glider proof your bathroom or use a tent to let them out in saftely and do some bonding?  You can pick tent up pretty cheap now.
What size cage have you got and what diet are yours on at the mo?

Hmmmm chameleons ... haven't I spoken to you via email??   Smiley

Firstly - we won't tell you off!  There's no point, we'd rather help someone with their situation than scare them off and forcing them to cope!

Yes females do have a 'season' it's about every 29- 30 days.

Glad you like the forum, but don't go telling Mark we love a guy with a heart!!!!  Lol (joke btw).  We all wubs Mark, he's lovely  Smiley

Hiya!

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I am from Manchester. Smiley

I go on a few forums for my chameleons and I've found a few of the "Experts" like to be mean to the people who make mistakes, ask silly questions or don't know enough... I think its a daft thing to do.. scoring points off people who just need a little help is kinda sad really. I'm kinda one of the experts there so I can stick up for the newbie, and it makes me happy to help people... glad to hear its nicer in here. Smiley

Just cut up an old fleece and waiting for the guys to get up and see how they like it... little ideas like that are ace! Smiley
