I have a big enough tent to where i can fit elvis's whole cage in it. Could I leave him and his cage in the tent with the door open or should I just put it in when I'm going to play with him and then take it out?

No, I wouldn't leave the cage in the tent permanently, Elvis won't get a day / night cycle, even though they're nocturnal a light period is important.

The tent should be the 'play' area not the living area Smiley.

The only problem is that this is the only way I'm able to get him into the tent with me. He's been waking up at different times for the past week so I'm never able to take him out right before he wakes up. My tent is pathetic. I have like no toys for him. all I have is ropes. He's not really a big toy fan. He'll only play with a toy as long as he has to feet on the cage. I think he's afraid they'll fall.
