Just wanted to know more about sugar glider rescue and fund raising and wanted to know what i can do personally?
I am currently trying to raise funds for hedgehog welfare and would welcome doing the same for gliders.
I think it's possible i could think of some way to do this...If so where would i send funds?

As far as I am aware there are no "official" glider rescue centres in the UK although i can think of one or two people on here who often take on sick or unwanted gliders and help nurse them back to full health.  I know Marie was considering looking at publishing some material involving the forum and various other sources, perhaps if any money was raised it could go towards publication and or research costs?  Just a thought.

yea. sugar gliders are still a relatively new pet to the market, so there isnt many rescue centres as not many people are educated in their upkeeping, therefore do not open centres.  We may think gliders are everywhere, (we look for them) but in the pet trade, they are still relatively new, so not many people have them. For instance, i am the only person with gliders in my college. I know more about gliders then my tutors, have even been asked to bring them in to educate my peers! ( I polietly declined as i dont trust mine in a classroom enviornment!) lol

They're not really that new, they've been about in the pet trade for 10 years or more, we've just done a good job of keeping them secret.

Fair to say that they are reasonably rare in the main stream pet trade, thankfully, i have a horrible feeling that they will follow the same path as previous "must have" pets like chins and chipmunks, rescue centers are full of these now, oh and then of course some of the hobby breeders get on the band wagon thinking they can make a few quid.  Oh it does irk me!

god, just breaks my heart to think of little ones being locked up in a rescue centre all alone at night with no human company.

i know. it does me too, and the fact most rescues are outside and are on limited money. It makes me so fustrated that thanks to those stupid articles, it may well happen.

im still holding out for the hope people will forget about them. Or that they didnt see the newspaper articles.

I doubt it will be forgotten SM, i know alot of new hedgehog breeders appeared when the hog article went out and there were alot of breedes that either didnt have a clue/sold to anyone/didnt vet or pretended to have more knowledge than they actually did so were in esence giving out very dangerous advice. the reason I know this.......... I work somewhere where we get alot of emergency animal help calls and I am generally the one that screens those calls and finds the right erson to help with the problems.

Would it be possible to set up a fund raising *thing* for Suggies? Undecided

Between us surely we could work something out? I know my eyes have been opened this last year  Sad I found another Ad on preloved today where if I'd have had the space and cash I'd have picked the little guys up  Sad

UK for sale with OUTDOOR cage  Sad Indoor cage extra £££ Shocked

Can we buy all the Suggies at " :steam: bargain! prices" and help the little guys out?

The only thing I can think of doing really, is settling a paypal account for the admin to have access to...  Don't know how much good it'll be, though Sad
