Hi guys,
our older glider Archie has started getting his nails caught on our clothes, whether it be a fleecey dessing gown or the type of material a football shirt is made out of. He gets himself free but we're a bit worried....what do we do? We're currently waiting for the sandy inserts to come in stock at Marie's store, but to be honest, our gliders dont seem bothered about the wodent wheel we've bought so that might be a lost cause too.............we wouldnt ever try and cut his nails ourselves...........any suggestions? any advice greatly apreciated.

The only other option is maybe asking an experienced exotic animal vet to trim them for you. Other than that I'm not too sure  Leaving them as they are can be dangerous to the glider though, as if he twists it the wrong way or pulls to hard he could end up pulling his nail out. |

i've hears many stories of gliders losing toes and feet and sometimes their life when getting caught in nesting. My lot need their nails getting some attention as well, i'm going to try a wodent wheel with the inserts if not then it's good old fashioned nail trimming, most vets should be competent to do this basic task.

Give them chance to 'discover' the wheel, I've only ever known one glider completely snub a wheel.
How old are they?

i have to cut hollys the old fashioned way as the boys hog the wodent wheel. It needs a new sandy wheel insert anyway.
Have you got the inserts in yet marie?

I had the same problem with my gliders nails...believe me trimming them was no easy task at all but i managed...
Deff got to get some sandy inserts.

My Holly isnt too bad with hers. what i do is i get them when they are asleep in the pouch, and grab hollys leg and pull it out the pouch (gently), and close the pouch top so only her foot is out. then i cut, and repeat another 3 times. takes about 20 minutes, but they dont need doing again for ages! lol

Hi, just posting you an update.... the night when archie was getting caught really worried us so we have bought some sandy inserts off of marie, thanks marie!  the morning and night after though, he was completely fine, which made us think he might have been a bit anxious or something....he wouldnt dare jump far and was getting caught, as if he was really grabbing on for dear life bless him, but we have only had them for 4 weeks, and he was the more nervous of the two. but hes fine now, not to worry. thanks for all your advice, the insertsare gonna come in handy cause it looks like we've had 10 round with a cat after we've had them out,lol thanks again everyone Jenna and Rich |
