I think i aleady know the response to this question but just out of curiousity, has anyone ever mixed gliders to be in the same cage as rats, chipmunks or anything? Just wondered if they would tolerate living with other creatures?

Never done it personally, I really don't know much about chipmunks, but I wouldn't risk it with rats, in fact, I wouldn't risk it at all I don't think!  It's not worth trying just in case.  Smiley

The food for the rodents is not good for gliders. Rats and gliders are territorial - big no no to combine. I don't know who would win but you will either lose a rat or glider - most likely the rat would win. As to chipmunks, why? Same food issues. And it's possible that your gliders will eat your chipmunk. Depends upon the chipmunk's ability to hide and the number of gliders in the enclosure. If these animals bite each other, you will have a vet bill for treatment.

It would be inhumane to combine these animals in the same cage.

i completely agree here - dont mix ur gliders with other animals. theres no point to it at all and it would be cruel to all animals concerned. i read a story about a lady who put birds into the same cage with her gliders because her gliders 'didn't use the bottom half of the cage'. she got a nasty shock when she saw her group of gliders hunt and kill her birds - leaping onto them in mid air.  Undecided people forget that gliders in the wild eat all sorts of things.

and i agree with the theory that rats would kill the gliders. rats can climb better than they're given credit for and are pretty smart animals too. my gliders would be curious and probably go and take a look at the rats and that would be that. my brother has kept rats and they can be very territorial - killing other rats let alone other species.

i strongly suggest that you dont try this out  Tongue

I've got a hedgehog at the bottom of my glider cage and it's a happy coexistance.  Hoggle tottles about like he rules the place and nobody bothers with eachother.  There was quite a bit of curiousity the first few nights Hoggle moved in, but other than that, everything is great.
