Yep, long term it is pretty bad for ratty lungs. I know if you spend the right amount of time DIY-ing them they can have plenty of ledges and stuff, but they cant climb the bars and most people dont bother diy-ing tanks like that, they just stuff the rats in with a nest box and food and water bowls. Besides, there's nothing so cute as friendly ratties climbing up the bars and sticking their wee nosies through for their mornin yoghurt drops!! Grr. Love seeing gerbilariums though, especially when you get those cool wire cage top bits. Would like a gerbilarium actually, but I'm banned lol. Strangely enough I'm allowed a skunk. Men, eh Wink.

i have a gerbilarium for my gerbils! lol and mine has a acage ontop! lol

no, long term i deffo wouldnt agree with. im my op, all cages should mimick the animals natural environment, and a tank dont do it for rats. but as a quick temp, like in shops when the rats go quickly, i would prefer to see them in a big aqaurium then those little slidy tank things that you see about 6 of them in.
