How did Java get that injury?

Venus - how on earth did she get in to that state!

And it's just clicked who you are Val - Jackie Chan brought it all back, I followed his story on GA.  I'm Moorie Smiley  Please feel free to post as many pics as you can, people NEED to know what can happen!  I'm all for putting people off buying them Smiley

Poor little guys  Sad

the real tragedy is there will always be people that buy animals and neglect them, some you can educate, others will always be thoughtless B's Lips sealed

I was just the opening act for injured rescues.  Those pics, gliders and results are just a small part of why Val is my hero.  She has done things for gliders that no else could, in my opinion.  I have never heard her say no to a glider and each and every one is treated like royalty.  I've learned so much from her and we share our passion to improve the lives for these gliders.  We're always looking for new ways to help them, whether it be through diet or treatment, and we're open to hearing anything.  I am a firm believer that we all  can contribute in one way or another. Sometimes we learn simply by listening.

Marie I picked up on who you were right away.  I'm glad you remember my little Jackie Chan.   Grin

To answer some questions - Java's cage mate was eating away at him and his Mom at the time refused to accept that and separate them, so she just kept eating away at him.  THIS is what can happen when gliders are a bad match/pairing AND owners are uneducated and refuse to listen to the advice of more experienced folk.  I had been advising on Java's case for 5 months and she just would not listen.

Venus  - well, we can't say for sure how that happened.  The story I was given is a load of crap.  What *I* believe happened is that the teenage owner sat or stepped on her and then put her back in the cage with 2 other gliders who then began to do what gliders do.  She also had 8 puncture wounds.  But, you should see her now!!!!  Did I say she is AMAZING?

Val left out part of the story.  Due to her extensive injuries, Venus had to be immobilized for several weeks.  Val had to make a "box" for her to live in that would not give her enough room to jump.  It was such a hard thing to do.  I kept telling Val that once she got through these few hard weeks, it would be a merry Christmas.  Venus went in for a re-evaluation a week or so before Christmas.  The vet said she had healed so well that she could move into a small reptarium AND she could have a wheel!!!  I cried when Val called me!  By the way, ya'll should know that Val and I cry a lot.  This little glider is simply the MOST amazing little girl.  She's got such a spirit and she found her way to Val and now she's not just alive, but she's living.

I think you both should post these photos on GliderCentral. It might make some people in the US who think gliders are good for a quick buck to think twice about breeding.

thats amazing. you two should be so proud. i dont know how you can do it. i think if it was me, i would be a nervous wreck everytime i hear the words "glider" and "rescue" as too what state they would come in.

heres us we worry about the effects bad diets have, like HLP or bad fur, on our rescues, but your lot are truly horrific.

Karma for you both. Smiley

Lol - that's worrying!!   Grin  When Kate mentioned her rescuer friend called Val from Texas I had an inckling that I'd know you, but of course Jackie Chan just gave it away!

Hmmm, I can see that happening to a few people over here - let's just chuck them in together - they'll be fine!!!!  Roll Eyes

Venus is a really beautiful glider!  I did suspect that she'd been 'physically abused' in some way, maybe she bit her old mum or something!  She truly is amazing ... but so are you!  You both are, to do so much for those gliders at such expense!

$18,000.00! thats astonishing! and a nice price to show people the expense of treatment when gliders get injured. a

nd poor venus. i mean, my holly got stood on once accidently by my oaf of an OH, but the noise and the commercial lunge that followed ensured he was never that clumsy again! lol she didnt substain any injuries luckily for OH, but it shows that if something like that can happen to a glider keeper who worships her pets, then it can happen to anyone, and the price tag to fix it isnt cheap.

Venus is a platinum, ringtail mosaic.  Sadly, her pretty ringtail is not with her anymore.  I do still have it, though.  I always keep most everything the vet removes from my gliders - you know, research.....

I would sell everything I own and then some to keep Jackie Chan well.  He is the most amazingly inspiring guy ever.  His little paralyzed body can do many things better than the rest of my gliders.  He is worth every penny.

I don't mind at all.  What would you like to know?  I'm afraid that given free reign to just talk about him, this would turn into a novel.  LOL

I'm sure you would like more pictures of my baby, huh?  WELLLLLL, OK.

That's funny.  There is a running joke on another board about me doing the SAME thing.
