Hi

I am hand feeding my 2 gliders and thing are good. I have them about a month. The female is active and the male hide's most of the time.

Last night I was feeding the Female and she bit me on one fingure then on another. The biting got stronger and stronger. I put on gloves to protect my hands. While she was biting me with the gloves on she was sitting on my hand. (which is pritty cool).

How do I stop the biting. I have not struck her or blowen on her. I want to bond well with both, but the biting it hard to take.

The two gliders and adults.

You might start with offering food through the cage bars so that she doesn't have the chance to bite you. Then try working with them every other night and putting their food into a dish on alternate nights.

You shouldn't be bitten and she should not get in the habit of biting you. Check out the bonding info in the stickys and post in our new member section so others can welcome you to the forum. They'll help you even more, but read the stickys first. Welcome!

The little ones will start associate your hands with food all the time, and if you have been feeding them then you might still have the smell and taste of the food on your hands.  My little boys started to snatch and bite me when i gave them yoghurt drops as they knew something good was coming so would just lunge.

My gliders get yoggie drops every night and they don't bite me, the point of bonding with them is for them to associate your hands and you with nice things.  Tongue

As Dee (Jungleflockmom) has said, read the stickies, it sounds to me like she's looking for more food, and because your hands then smell of food she's thinking she will find some if she just bites a little harder.

And I know this sounds daft, but just don't give her the opportunity to bite you, move your hand away before it gets to that stage.  You would be surprised, but that does work Smiley

The bites are because they want the yoghurt drops, not them biting me, they just miss the yoghurt and get me instead!!!!!  :banned:

onion does it too me. she will take treats nicely, but then she starts licking my fingers then she will bite as if to make more nice tastes come out (my blood dont taste that good though!) lol.

when i see her licking, i just push her off and say her name then "NO", when she gets ready to bite. i also have one who bites ears and he gets a loud "NO" when he does it too.

oh you hand feed the food? i thought it was just treats.

there is no need to hand feed the actual food, they will bond just as quickly if you hand feed treats. best to give them some independance! lol Smiley
