Dave, who used to be called Katherine till i realised i had mis-sexed them passed away on Monday.

RIP little fella.  He had just been castrated although i suspect that had very little to do with it, i believe it was the same illness that struck down Fiver a few months back.  I have spoken to Paul who is going to treat my remaining 3 Rabbits just in case, although they appear healthy, both Dave and Fiver were fine until the day i found them.

yeah, i kind of intestinal parasite of some sort, incurable once they have it and it is easy to catch between rabbits but many rabbits carry it without a problem.

well when Fiver passed away both Patch the mouse and Ronnie my cat died within a few days of each other, although i put that down to bad karma, this time i'm certain i haven't done anything.  One of these things i guess perhaps

Rox, I've just posted in this section and was flicking through the other posts and just read this one. This sounds exactly like the parasite that have affected mine. It is called Encephalitizoon cuniculi and is a protozoa that infects the urinary tract primarily, with the adult parasites shedding the eggs (called oocysts) into the urine, which an unaffected rabbit can then pick up by ingesting them accidentally with food (e.g. hay or dry food off the floor). They can then migrate through the rabbits body and enter the central nervous system where drugs cannot reach them, and they can either cause CNS signs straight away or live there happy-as-larry until a stressful event occurs, when they re-emerge all at once and cause illness and death. This my look like theyve had a stroke or there may not be noticeable CNS signs - one of mine had dark brown urine and I think died from associated kidney failure. It sounds like yours may have been affected with this too, especially as it occured to poor Dave after his operation (the stressful event that triggered the disease).
I'm so sorry for your loss, it really is horrible when you find them like this and you know theres nothing you can do. Sad

i've just responded to your thread!  Yes, sounds very very similar.  I didn't have a pm on Dave but i did on fiver, who was my little tame baby, sounds like the same thing.  He had a dark brown vile looking liquid in his stomach and intestines.  As i said in your other thread, i had the remaining rabbits tested and they came back clear.
