Ok, as most of you know, I got two females as my first ever suggies at the end of February.

I have been intrigued with the growing 'lump' to one side of the pouch of one of my females.....

well, concerned that I would be thought of as the stupid newbie I have refrained from posting until now...

But after contacting the previous owner querying whether it would be possible that one of them may have been impregnated prior to arrival with me (which she has confirmed could well be possible), I have decided to seek your comments.

Please see attached photo, suggie on the left...It's more obvious when she is climbing up the side of the cage but so far I have been unable to get a photo..so....tell me what you think.

Thanks

That looks like a joey to me!!!  I have to say, it's kind of a nice surprise, but WTF???  You bought two females because you didn't want joeys!  And now you have one on the way!   Lips sealed  (not your fault, I'm quite angry at the breeder though!)

I think you should complain to be honest, stress the importance of the male in bringing up baby and stress the fact you have no male!  I think if it's male they should also pay for the neutering seeing as you didn't choose to have this joey!

My thoughts exactly...

I had thought about introducing a male in the far future (at least a year or more so that I could get the hang of looking after the females first and get more confidence)!!

A wonderful surprise though, albeit not expected at all.

Would a bump that size suggest a joey already in pouch?

Panicking a bit (possibly un-necessarily) re rejection!  (ok, quite a lot!!)  I hadn't expected this at all quite so soon!

Oh dear... off to read the stickies again!!!

p.s.  Do you think they are looking a bit less orange yet?  Tink on the right is much more grey than Belle on the left..

Oh yeah - def joey in pouch, they are only inside the mothers uterus for about 16 days, they are then born and make their way to mum's pouch for about 60 days.

Don't worry Bex ... we'll help you as much as we can, but I think a telling off is in order for the 'breeder'.  This is a terrible thing to happen, and just proves what you said before about them being seperated from other partners in order to fulfil your requirements (again - NOT your fault!).

They still look quite orange, I'll have to check back to the other pics ...

Ironically, it's Belle that I initially thought could have been male that has the bump!!!  Roll Eyes

Belle is still orange, it's hard to compare because the recent pic is close up and completely different angle etc.  But you can see that Tink's head starting to go grey Smiley

What role does the father play?  Is it possible that my other female will help out?

That is disgusting!!  I am not having a go at you at all, Bex, but the "breeder" needs a right smack upside the head!

The father takes the pressure away from the mum!  Bless them!  They stay with the joeys in the nest while mum goes to eat, when joeys first come out of pouch they cannot thermo regulate so dad stays behind to make sure they're still warm.  They do a lot of care taking, and it is quite possible the other female will help out.  I have seen older siblings all play a role too.

yeah some females MAY help out, especially if it a family unit, but i agree with Marie here. it seems obvious in MY opinion that these two females were infact with males then split up and seperated to make a sale. Disgusting but NOT your fault! *Fluffy duck* irresponsible breeders!

they are still quite orange, but as already said, there is a distinctive paler colour arriving on the top of the right gliders head, but dont worry, it wil take awhile for a colour so dark to go away anyway. you doing ok. Smiley
