Thanks Marie.

Sadly, one f our "innie outies" was rejected last night - mum quite nastily threw it out of the sleeping pouch to the floor of the cage and despite my best  effotrs to sustain a bond with mum and little one, it was not to be.

I don't think the other one os far off being OOP now though for sure as this morning, mum for the FIRSt time ever (as in 1am this morning) came out of the cage, climbed up my arm and sat on my shoulder nibbling my hair while I put her baby back into the sleeping pouch.

Fingers crossed she won't reject the other baby and lets hope all goes okay Smiley

Mum is really coming round now handling wise and has become so trusting and calm with me whichI am so grateful for as the father and daughter are both cottoning on to the fact I am not going to hurt themand that they are safe with me so hopefully the baby will follow suit if all works well.

I am so sorry for the loss of the one joey.  I know how hard of a sight that is to see.  Best of luck with the other new one Smiley *hugs*

Aw no, I'm so sorry!  You're having a real tough time with your suggies at the minute aren't you!?  Don't blame mum (though I'm sure you won't Smiley), I'd put it down to stress personally, before you had them they were fed 'fruit and stuff!' so god knows what that means, kept in a small cage and had very little contact.  As far as I'm concerned you rescued them from a bad situation and I'm glad you got them out of there.  Two joeys (which were already IP when BC got them) was obviously too much for her to cope with at this stage, stress and previous poor diet I would think would contribute to her rejection.

If she rejects the second one and you want to hand rear you have my mobile number, I'll help all I can.

Thanks ever so much for the kind words everyone.

Sadly, the other joey has also been rejected but before I could see and pull it out of the cage to hand rear, it had been cannibalised Sad Sad

I do agree I am having a right rough time with the gliders right now BUT I am not disheartened at all.  I feel glad that I have got them and that they now have a secure home with me in a proper environment with allthey need.  I am going to put it all down to experience and carry on as normal with them Smiley

Marie - thank you so much for all of your help and for being at the end of the phone should I find myself above my head.  It means a lot to know I can calll on someone in times of need and I am sure the gliders would give you much big loves if they also realised how supportive you have been since thier arrival xx

Oh no!  I am sorry Sad  Sometimes there are no visible signs of rejection, even if one is thrown out it doesn't mean the 2nd one will be, the first you know of it the joey has vanished!  It's very sad and it's so hard to get across to people that despite their cuteness and 'butter wouldn't melt' appearance they can be savage little monsters!

I agree with Marie.  I had a set of parents that when it happened there were no signs. They were great gliders or so it seemed, but I had taken them in from someone that could not care for them anymore and did not realize they were sick.  Then in turn, they knew the joeys were sick and therefore ate them.  Ends up they had a bacterial infection.  Please do not blame yourself as this often happens when they do not believe the joey will live a healthy life. *hugs*

Thanks again for the kind words of reassurance Smiley Smiley

I have gone with the notion that Mother Nature has her own ways of doing things and that I have to go with HEr flow, not my own.  If I don't follow that rule, I fear I may end up slightly loopy and very, very distraught over recent events in this house!

Fingers crossed that things will be better in the future.  I am now undecided whether to get the male neutered so quickly as I would love to try again adn hopefull yhave joeys of my own.  They would, of course, be our pets and not sold or anything with not knowing any history of the parents.

Have to see again whether Mother Nature wishes to bring babies along for us Smiley
