Sugar Glider Expense - A Brief Breakdown

Buying a glider is not only an emotional and time consuming commitment, it is also a financial commitment. Sugar gliders can live for up to 16-18 years, so please bear that in mind when reading this breakdown;

To begin with, there’s the preparation for your gliders. This, if done correctly and in the best interest of your gliders, is expensive.

Here is a break-down of what I spent on my gliders before I even bought them! (Money is in British Pounds, but for US Dollars, remember that $ is about double, a little less. E.g. £5 = $9.32635)

Cage - £100 - £200

Cage sets - £50

Wodent Wheel + Sandy Wheel Insert - £22

Toys - £25

Food bowls - £10

Water bottles - £8

Bonding pouches - £30

Animal friendly cleaners (e.g. F10 ready mixed, 1litre) - £8.99

Then there’s the food and supplements to get every week/month or so (depending on what the item is):

Fresh fruits and veg every week - £10

Glider Booster and Glider Cal - £12

Gliderade (8oz) - £9.99

Insectivorefare (Staple food!) 3lb - £18

Acacia Gum 4oz - £7.99

Bee Pollen: £4.99

Probiotic yoghurt - £3.99

Apple juice - £1.99

Eggs - £0.90

Mealworm - £1.80

Waxworms - £1.80

Crickets - £1.80

Then you get to the gliders. I will ALWAYS tell those who ask me to buy from a reputable breeder. That way you are more likely to get well-adjusted, healthy, loving and happy sugar gliders. I got my two girls from a recommended breeder, and I have been thankful that I made that decision every day since getting them. I also always say get a pair of gliders, never a single one. Please remember that these are social animals, and can DIE from loneliness.

Pair of sugar gliders (f/f): £220

Finally, vet bills. These, as any pet owner will know, can mount up quickly. This is especially the case with exotic animals (As sugar gliders are). They should receive a health check up on a regular basis, as well as any other vet attention needed. A glider can mask an illness almost until it’s too late, be prepared to have a vet on hand that can treat a glider

Regular vet check up - £25

Other vet costs - £20+
