this afternoon, my little boy chinchilla Harvey passed away in my arms.

i noticed last nite he was skin and bones, this had suddenly come on, and he had no signs of losing weight previously. he was so ill, cudnt walk properly, or have the energy to bathe. it just came on so suddenly, but i hate myself for not seeing it earlier. his appetite had been fine. no more or less then normal.

im so upset. ive had him the shortest amount of time.

He is buried in my mams garden now.

R.I.P Little man, you will be greatly missed by both me and scott, and also Chewy, Pebbles and the gliders. xxx

ano. it was like one minute he was happy, bouncing away, not wanting me to stroke him, to being sad, depressed and letting me cuddle him.

im glad in a way he has gone though. he wouldnt have been cured at a vets, he was too weak, and im happier he died at home in my arms.

I'm sorry for your loss Sad

At least he knew he was loved in those last moments, there's nothing you could have done but what you did- comfort him.

RIP Harvest Moon. Sorry for your loss Rhi  Sad.  Unfortunately the skin and bones thing can come on overnight, I never thought it possible until I saw it myself.  So don't blame yourself for missing it, he probably wasn't like that when you looked.

Its horrible. i never believed anyone either when they said its amazing how quickly they can become ill. i thought, there must be SOME signs, but there was none, except he was more quieter then usual but i put that down to him still finding himself from his op.

Oh no, thats terrible! So sorry for your loss. Do not blame yourself, these things usually happen very quickly and its difficult to notice with animals as fluffy as chinchillas. Sad

Chins do go down hill very very quickly, when my Scrap died he became too weak to walk within a day of bouncing around as normal, i made the same decision as you and let him be peaceful and at home in his last few hours, he died in my arms.
