:sg: I found one of my sugar gliders dead this morning, I have two, one male, one female, I'm pretty cut up and feel like I'm responsible for its death, it was so hard to see the other one trying to get it too move, I feel like shit, what should I do with my dead suggie, and how will I go about being able to keep my now lone sugar glider happy, as now the most important thing is the health & well being of my other sugar glider. I have no idea why it died, it was only less than a year old and the suggies are (were) brother & sister  Sad

I am so sorry

If I was in your situation the first thing I would do is ring my vet and take Larry to have a PM done, to make sure he did not carry anything your other glider could of caught. If you cant get to the vet until tomorrow I would put him in the fridge (not freezer) until first thing tomorrow. I am sorry to sound so blunt.

Next you need to keep an eye on your lone glider, make sure her health does not deteriorate until you get the results of the PM, she could be fine she might not be, you cant be sure until the results are back, please do not get paranoid or worried though I am not trying to scare you and normally its an internal health issue or something similar that cannot be transferred to another glider.

You also need to spend as much time as possible with your lone glider, she was bonded to Larry so you may see signs of distress, this can range from nothing to full on SMing and overgrooming, just watch her and make sure shes not showing any unusual behaviour. Give her time to grieve but you do need to think about getting another glider, I would leave it a month or so if her behaviour seems fine so she can get to grips with losing her bond mate, if she starts showing signs of overgrooming or SMing then I would get her a new mate ASAP.

You will also become her new bond mate for a time, so get her out more, pouch her in the day if you can as well,

Oh no! that's so sad!!!
Did we ever find out what happened?
How is the survivor? Does he(or she) have a new friend now?

Thats really tough.. I had a similar situation with another pet.. It takes time to get over the loss.. Keep the other one close and it might help ease it into its new situation.
