I love watching them carry things around in their tail!  It's very good enrichment for them.  Shocked

Maybe he's a methodical glider, chews off all leaves while he's there, piles them neatly in corner while he's on the floor ready to stuff in to pouch when he's got chance!  Lol!!!  It's all normal.  Smiley

I personally don't lower houses, they wouldn't nest lower in the wild because there are joeys imminent.  Usually, if the joey is found out of the sleeping quarters or worse, it's a sign of rejection.  JOeys don't tend to wander until they can see and even then they're usually on the back of either mum or dad.

Good tip on the house thing btw Smiley

I wouldnt bother moving the sleeping area lower. When mine had joeys (and when my pair before that had joeys) I would make a little platform underneath the sleeping area from fleece - a bit like a soft hammock but level instead of sagging, and that set my mind at rest in case a joey fell out because he would only fall a short distance and land on something soft. Its probably unnecessary because in the wild theyre MUCH higher up in the trees, but id rather be safe than sorry Smiley

thanks for the replies guys - increasingly thinking she is very definately and I have just been trying to ignore it for a whiile - she is eating more, moving slower!!! and been less handlable.. .and now i want to handle her less to try and make sure all is good - great advice however want a few specifics...

cage - marie you have seen it! if I have got joeys in pouch... as the base is wire into a tray shoudl I line wire with fleece to ensure baby cant fall through (or babies as bump on both side atlhough seem to now be differenct sizes)

supplement wise doing about 1/8 tsp every other day so increased that too daily
do I do breakfast again now - if so how long for
should I get and start supplementing her onto milk

doubled her protein (ie about 10-12 cat biscuits at least and few in morning too) - is that enough - do I just let her gorge til she stops... never tried that as not convinced she would know when to stop

also he is more tetchy at the moement - keeps on nagging her - is that normal - should I be worried, what should I watch for

because of hand excema been handling less - they dont like smell of creams... should I keep handling to minimum to prevent rejections... or should I increase it again as want to be able to handle joeys if/when

I know shouldnt move them so not taking them to vets for check and guess means good job couldnt get to glider meet!

however rox if you could get over end of week - texted you! that would be awesome to set my mind at rest and eyeball and child proof etc the cage!
there would be some muffins in it for you and tea of some basic description!

and yep love dogs!

just worrried - would love it all to be ok but taken so long to get them healthy worried this will be start of newe problems

btw shoudl I try to weigh her.... not done for several months as was happy they had just reached normal and were stable!!!
if yes how much should she have gone up by!

pictures - on phone not clear and unable to download from phone!!!! grrrr technology

next online end of week!
btw their nestbox is low as that is where is was when he was injuired and they are used to it now and makes it much easier for me to reach them if ever need to!

I never put fleece on the bottom of mine, but if it makes you feel better then do it.

supplement wise doing about 1/8 tsp every other day so increased that too daily

supps keep going with that right up until the joey is weaned. You don't need to supp her diet with milk powder of any kind.  But, it would be handy to have a small tub of lactol in should the joeys need hand rearing or supplement feeding.

doubled her protein (ie about 10-12 cat biscuits at least and few in morning too) - is that enough - do I just let her gorge til she stops... never tried that as not convinced she would know when to stop

That is more than enough Helen.  You just need to make sure she doesn't get a bit porky!  Maybe drop her down again and slowly increase the amount as the joey grows.  Just use your own judgement, there are no specific amounts as each glider is different.

also he is more tetchy at the moement - keeps on nagging her - is that normal - should I be worried, what should I watch for

Nagging her for what?  To do the ironing  Tongue.  Lol!  He could just be going through a grumpy phase as they do.  I've never noticed a male getting extra tetchy with a female because she has joey/s in pouch.

because of hand excema been handling less - they dont like smell of creams... should I keep handling to minimum to prevent rejections... or should I increase it again as want to be able to handle joeys if/when

I wouldn't handle them while using the creams, do they contain steroids?  Handling the parents now isn't going to make much difference to the tameness of the joeys.

I know shouldnt move them so not taking them to vets for check and guess means good job couldnt get to glider meet!

Just make sure you have the coffee drip set up ready for her Helen  Grin

just worrried - would love it all to be ok but taken so long to get them healthy worried this will be start of newe problems

Everything should be fine.

No, don't worry about weighing her.

I think it's an American thing again, along with taking wheels out.  I never do that either Smiley

thanks marie! (and ezzie!)

re handling - am on creams for life no longer on steriods just on unscented (parafin based) mositurisers.... so if shouldnt handle them with those am stuffed! can maybe wash hands handle and then reapply... hmm

ok good to know wont make the joey any more or less handlable!

hmm will see re fleece

no way am I removing the wheel they would both go spare!!!

porkey... hmm ok will titrate does against size

how anyone give me a guide to size peanut vs week  of joey!
and is there anyway they could just have fatty lumps each side at their kind of back pocket level (ie not be pregnant just have specific fat?!)

so basically go with normal plans just keep eye!

re rox - no reply or sign yet... hmmmm!

will have to try to find someone with camera for me
at weekend so can get a definative opinion on if she is preggers!

re bed areas.... should I restrict them only too one - never have before in which case as they have just moved which area do I take out! the pouch inside carrier case
or the nestbox with fleece (which have just moved out!)
?!

thanks for putting up with the queries...

parafin should be ok as long as it's not scented, it can make them "slimy' though. best to just wash hands and then reapply.

it's EXTREMELY unlikely that it's just "fat", though I'm sure there's been an anomaly somewhere.
below is a link to joey size during "pregnancy" with pics for each time frame

honestly it's a matter of preference at this point. some only have one because they're paranoid (me) and it's been suggested that having two pouches encourages joey rejection. There is NO PROOF of that! it's up to you Cheesy both the box and the pouch are acceptable, as to which one you take out, that's up to you too. which one do your gliders seem to like best?

No, don't reduce sleeping places, mum needs to get away from the joeys sometimes!  In the wild, parents will often leave their joeys in a different nesting area from the one currently in use, with a guardian to avoid predation.   Stress is a big factor in rejection, by changing things around you're going to increase the risk of stressing them out!  Just stick to the normal routine, don't change anything in their cage!

LOL, marie, I do believe you're out to get me today.

 :hide:

If I understand correctly , theres a box and a pouch, yes?  if there are other hideys and such in the cage, she'll just leave the joeys in the pouch, have some out time, dad will stay with the babies and she'll go back when she wants to. So if One of the pouches is taken out and there's still a box and a pouch left, is that not ok?

(I've had two pouches in and one never got used in all instances, so when there's just the mum, dad and babies, I downgrade to one super sized pouch (Before they come oop) with little hidey places all about the cage.)
I do definitely agree with the "keep it as low stress as possible" part for sure!

sorry for misinfo on the pouch part! I was speaking from personal experience and it seems I've been especially lucky! (after reading all of the breeding horror stories... I appreciate my luck all the more)

>.<

Lol Ezzie, I'm not out to get you!  I think you've given some awesome advice which is why I stickied the post!  It's just a differing in opinons, I know on a lot of the US forums they're over the top cautious which I don't think does the glider any good, same as over the top cleanliness.

It doesn't matter if it's a nestbox or pouch, if you had two sleeping areas then stick with two sleeping areas, just keep everything familiar.  Smiley

haha I know Cheesy
If I honestly thought you were out to get me, I wouldn't have said anything.
I certainly respect your opinion Cheesy especially about the familiarity since they're creatures who are very  sensitive to all things unfamiliar
