Most of that all depends on the gliders. one of my pairs NEVER left them alone, and the other pair would go out and about until the joeys cried (which would sometimes be an hour!!! (I keep a little space heater set on low directed at the cage that turns off on its own when it reaches a certain temp and comes back on if the temp falls <heater is NOT less than 3 feet away from their cage!>, and put a double layered fleece in-cage pouch in there so they stay warm)  I'd say as long as there's no aggression, and no ignoring when the babies cry, don't fret.

They'll climb in and out of the pouch off and on, but it won't be ALL the time. it gets harder and harder for her to walk with babies in there cuz they grow SO fast!(which is really funny to see- when she stuffs babies that are WAY too big back in her pouch. bums hanging out all over the place Cheesy) LOL)

I wouldn't push the "here! HAVE YOUR BABY!" thing too much. Momma needs alone time too Smiley

congrats on your babies! mine still aren't OOP officially ... SOON!!!

Not to add undue stress, seriously, this is just a "look out for this" kind of thing... not a "HEY! DOOM!" kind of thing: the babies aren't in the clear YET. Just keep an eye on them, and don't stress too much Cheesy BREATHE!!! your babies can sense when you're stressed too Cheesy

*bounce bounce bounce* yay babies!

thanks for the reply! dont worry I am watching like a hawk! they have actually been loads better - since the first day when they left them for over 20min with both of the parents out the nest box and cold joeys, they have been better partly as last night fed them insdie the nest box adn rewarded them whenever went back in - now she has come out for food and he comes to entrance of box but takes food back in with him as hand feeding
so hopefully they have worked out a better shift system - think she has had cabin fever as she is very lively now!
she has also started popping back to them or to give him food not sure which!

only other query is her nipple still seems to be hanging out and looks a bit dry and flat instead of engorged - does that just mean they are suckling lots or does that mean her milk is dryin gup - I havent checked them today (ie the joeys) as dont want to disturb unless have too - cant check every day that they are alive just have to hope!
and certainly today their pattern has been different from normal tea routine as they are one in one out!
hope so anywya!

It's a good thing Cheesy

Consider that they're new parents. sometimes it takes a minute to figure out how to make it all work. As long as the joys aren't being rejected, they will take care of their babies Cheesy  Suggies are great in the family way Cheesy  The most common behavior I've seen is switching (one out while the other babysits)  as the babies get a little older, they will both come out and leave the babies in. after a while, the babies will come out too Cheesy
When she pops back in, it will be a little bit of both (checking on them, sometimes to share, but most of my suggies are greedy and don't share much. LOL)

I've seen the "dry" looking nipple, and as long as it's not discolored (it should be a pinkish) I wouldn't worry about it.  Now that the suggies are out of pouch, they're a bit big to be stuffing in there, so they'll poke their heads in and while they try to climb in, her pouch won't completely cover them for long. her pouch is stretched a bunch!  much like  when WE have babies, our skin gets stretched, so it takes time for the elasticity to take her "tummy" back to what it was. There's bound to be sag, so you'll see inside her pouch more than normal.  again, don't stress it Smiley

Keep in mind though that you know your suggies better than anyone else here will, so if you see something that you feel is wrong, don't second guess yourself!  I can only give observations and opinions of what is "normal" and "not normal" for my overall suggie experiences. yours MAY be different Smiley So, keep an eye on the nipple thing, see if it changes or starts to look "peely" and discolored. (or) so far from your description though, everything seems pretty standard Cheesy

when you can get some, send pics! we wanna see!!!!

thanks for the encouragement... funny you are right about the new parents thing - they are so different now - tonight he literally poked his head out for a biscuit and that was it while she was having her out time!
and he is getting guardey - as havent checked on them for 2 days did today just to look - think eyes may be open (so in a week can start bonding!)
but he was obviously anxious -staying close to them and following my hand movements (only lifted cover within cage so that dont move or disturb)

think maybe early bit was them finding their feet and learning that they can get cold etc as now they seem to get the fleece doubled over so they are always hidden and snuggled
still not sure what wouldve happened if hadnt intervened after 20min and cold but glad all well!

yep i think she is just untidy with her dressing!
and yes trust instinct... very early on was assured just catching a claw couldnt break a leg... but my work background meant I do movement anlysis and instinct was right unfortunately and it was then we discovered how underweight my pair were originally!

lil now she is without bump looks smaller I think (hard to tell how much is used to her pregnancy size) so I am making sure as have done thorughout she gets extra biscuits, yogurt and treats, anything else should do to ensure she is maintaining weight (with twins!)

Just make sure she's getting plenty of food and vits. I don't know what diet you feed, but where applicable just make sure there's calcium, gliderade, etc. (sometimes I sneak the momma out and give her some bugs when it's just me and her. If I give her bugs while she's in with the rest, poppa steals them right out of her hands! LOL then she chases him around the cage, trying to get it back. Funny, but sad. LOL. )

I know what you mean about the "she looks so SMALL!!!" it's crazy how much of their size is the babies LOL. beats "slim quick" anyday!

One of my boys gor really mean after the babies! Guardy at first, and then once they were grown, he just stayed grumpy. He bites HARD now. I basically had to completely restart the bonding process with him. He's much better now, but they're the ones expecting again, so we'll see how it goes this time round. the rest of my boys were never like that. LOL he's just one of those "dads on the porch with a shotgun when boys come a-calling" LOL. If he could, he'd set up alarms and motion sensor 'suggie' lights all around the perimeter of the cage.

Cheesy

so far so good - still have two joeys! and lil starting to look sleeker again, only ever see one joey at time (she often comes out with one feeding attached) - other one in nest box but as far as can tell both ok size and getting food,

new to joeys and cant find definate timings!

how soon before they open their eyes? been OOP 9 days I think now, (although wonder if they came out bit early)
definately getting wriggler now and heard first mini squeak and mini crab!!

so cute
having to force myself to be patient and not handle them or peek!

motherhood is good for lil - she has always let me stroke her but seems much happier to be handled at moment (mainly within cage as too worried to let her stray as he isnt so good on the sitting duty!)
seems to me like she has mellowed... we shall see soon find out when she next nips me and draws blood whether I am dreaming or not!

still cant beleive my clever pair may have actually succeded in having healthy twins which is full circle after their own half body weight start!
give it another few weeks and then will have to make some decisions!

also currently at friends house to see if allergic to her cat as she wants to move in with me!
(and she will then come to me to see if she can cope with gliders!) interesting times as we both react to loads stuff!

LOL it's hard to imagine hearing glider noises in the mini until you hear them for yourself LOL. It's so cute Cheesy they try to be all scary but it just makes you melt Cheesy lol The mini crab is more likely to be the baby "crying" than a crab, just wait til you hear the crab! lol.

usually their eyes open anywhere from 6 to 12 days oop. any day now!

good luck on the "neither being allergic" thing Cheesy

yeah! eyes open now and they are growing all the time!
know they are still feeding as lil came ut reluctantly to collect a treat when I chriped and she had one attached!

handling - so far as ve just sat with pouch on my lap for 5 min and they have heard me and smelt finger nothin more - how quicvkly do I start picking them up, how know you arent supposed to around their middle but so small kind of ahard to tell how else!
and one ata time of both toether .. aslo doI carry on if they crab?
lil doesnt seem to mind at all phil gets twitchy so shall have to see how it goes,
and as they are still very young presumably you cant put food on yourself to make them relax so how do you get them to feel happy on you!
sorry novice again!
also all posts talk about hand rearing or g=breeding cants see any step by sep to introucuctions to your new babies.. they are so cute and my whole church group has fallen in love with them!
collecting pictures on my phone but havcent worked out how to get them off yet! so may have to wait on that!

lil has now decided to come back to form and start biting again!
thought the other day it was just to tell me off for handling joeys! but now was sweet letting me stroke her taking food, wandered on and off me and then randomly bit finger and drew blood! thanks a bunch lil!

joeys - one was fine on me other was curled up and cool and sleepy so then on me kept hiding head couldnt decide if good or bad ie trying to snuggle or scared stupid!
so ask again step by step for joeys as all I know was from bribing wild suggiess so to speak who were charmed by voice time and treats, these are too little for treats and presumbably not a good thing to keep them on me long enough to fall asleep!

also is it good that mum is now only sukcling one at a time and other is curled up alone... presume as still looks healthy all ok

wow just realised how long have been off line!
well still have 2 not so little joeys! and lil is back to her grumpy self with vengence - despite having 3 feeding areas she keeps on picking oh phil and biting him (not badly but still not nice) every time he approaches one!
other day I hissed at her for picking on him so she walked across the cage reached up and bit my hand!!! charming!
had arm in cage as holding joeys!!!

taking the joeys out for food each day - they have been hand feeding fruit for err maybe 2-3 weeks now!
does that mean they are fully weaned now? all a little unclear!
they do eat at other times but again still hesitant to come out!

re bonding - is it worth spending time in pouch with them?
they will happily let me stroke and handle legs tails etc while eating (practising should we ever need vet trips) but still unsure and jump easily!

and I know that they cant be neutered until 4 months... would people advicse having that done here with local vet who I dont think has done any young ones... or make a trip to another better knowen one someone on here has used....
at moment thinking of keeping them.... but either way getting them done!

the only thing that worries me is my skin is playi9ng up again.l.. and wondering if they maynot be helping.. but dont want to have to give them up!!!

any other tips on young gliders, handling, food etc!

and how much do/should they eat!

ok re neutering - just read a few more posts - consensus seems to be 12 weeks + how much later can it be left/should it be... want to get it right!
and to check I am thinking straight
OOP 4 sept ish
so need to wait until at least mid november or after.

kind of still unsure - havent even named them yet thought talk to and cuddle - weird I think I was so worried they wouldnt make it that I didnt let myself get atached
and it has been 15 years since I last had a pet to name! forgotten how to - originally thought monster and mouse as they were didfferent tempermaents but now are similar and look nearly identical!

other thing in back of my head is.... eventually wouldnt mind lil haveing another set as so cute and she seemed to like it ... but given her histroy would that put her at risk... also as the joeys semm to be good size and weight can I assume they havent  got any minerail problems from parents (will get maybe check zxray when neuter to be sure)

I guess waht I am saying is if someone is aboslutely depserate for a pair I may consider selling in future BUT only after while to make sure the person is serouso and knows their stuff... but at same point would be gutted if gave them away and then in future foudn it was one off and lil and pjhil dont have any more!
guess I want to keep and if ever there is another baby wil then re think if needs be!
wowo parenthood is interesting!

is there a glider meet soem time - would like chance to showw them off and get them checked over!
