Well guys,

My last post before Christmas I informed you that Goose had died and left Maverick all alone. I was desperately trying to find another one, possibly two sugar gliders to accompany my poor little boy as I didn't want him to get lonely. After trawling the internet and meassaging breeders that never replied I eventually found a new family 2 days before Christmas to accompany my little Mav.

The newbies are:

Ezmo - about 18 months old male - unneutered (intact)
Rif-Raf - about 18 months old male - unneutered (intact)
Nutmeg - about 18 months old female - unrelated
Snausage - about 6 months old - Nutmeg's son - going to give him the snip when he's old enough

Now, at the moment the newbies are being kept in a tall vivarium, separate to Maverick's cage which he lives in alone at the moment but in the same room.

The only time they get to see each other at the moment is when I let them out in the room at night. So far it's not going too well trying to introduce any of them to Maverick. They all try and attack Mav and there's a lot of hissing going on. Maverick scents me up and all the furniture around the room constantly. Mav is very scared now. He's wary anytime my hand goes near him and doesn't seem to want to be touched by me anymore. He runs to a certain part of his cage and stays still for ages at a time. He's hardly eating too right now - maybe a small amount of jam that i try to coax him with but you can see that he's on edge whilst eating that!

I'm not sure what to do now. Since I've got this new family I've realised that Mav is actually underweight - 80 grams. He's actually a similar size to the baby, Snausage now. Having tried them all out together and separately, here are the results:

Snausage + Maverick = Snausage attacking Maverick
Rif-Raf + Maverick = Rif-Raf attacking Maverick
Ezmo + Maverick = sniffing around each other then they have a bit of a fight

I've not tried Nutmeg with Maverick yet as we've recently found out she's preggers! Can see one large lump in her right side (if looking at her belly).

I'm wondering if all this is scaring Maverick. I've swapped items of my clothing within both pouches but Mav's still not getting used to them and is even scared of me now.

I really don't know what to do and any advice would be more than welcome.

Lee.

Poor Maverick - that is one stressed suggie!  Is Maverick neutered?  If not then there isn't much chance of getting him together with other un neutered males, and there's no point stressing him out by trying, someone will end up getting hurt!  Get all males neutered before trying to put them together.  Stop with the pouch/fabric swapping, do not allow them out to play together as I think other dominant males in the same area are what is stressing him out.  Move them apart, get all males neutered and a month after that you can start again.

yeah, i tried doing this before and it was impossible so in the end i got everyone 'done' then waited a month, introduced again and it went fine and they were all snuggled up together in the same pouch by the end of the night.
