Is it a "complete" food?

No, it's not for sale over here.  I can get complete foods but I don't bother stocking them to be honest.  Feed fresh veg and fruits with a protein source, not only is it good for the gliders but eating should be enjoyable and enrichment rather than eating cardboard.

75% of a glider's diet should be fruit and veg, not a pellet, I'm afraid. There are a lot of inacurate things on the net about glider care and the "complete foods" in the States are one of those inacuracies. Have a look at the stickies about diet here Smiley

I will remember that the next time I tuck into my favourite muesli!
Dear god, I am just new to this website, I am just asking for advice, not here to be preached at.

Your museli is your choice, is that all you eat at every meal?  You asked for advice and you got it, no one is preaching, I don't see why you're getting funny!

I said this dried food is a 75% complete food, not a 100% food.

I am new to sugar gliders but do breed obedience collies and they do very well on either a complete dried food diet (with healthy treats) or a raw food diet, I know some home made diets have caused severe health problems because people have misjudged their minerals and vitamins etc and thats what i worry about.

Its not about putting each other ideas down, it’s about what is genuinely for the best for the animals.
This website seems full of "experts" all with different ideas, but not everyone can be right.

No one on here claims to be an expert, you had three responses from 3 of the more experienced keepers that's all.

I don't completely 'disagree' with pellets but I wouldn't recommend them as a complete diet or even a 75% one.  Gliders are different to dogs, I've got three dogs myself that have dried food also, but there is so much more to their lives, they are not stuck in a cage with a limited amount to fulfill their lives.  I'm sure you know a bored collie can be a destrctive collie due to their intelligence, a bored glider will turn it's boredom on itself.  It is a problem that is commonly seen in bored/depressed gliders, they self mutilate.

Also, the vet that developed the diet is associated with one of the largest glider mills in the US.  They're like puppy mills for gliders.

I am sorry if I came across of being preachy.  I didn't mean to (hence the smiley at the end).  I was just stating fact.  A glider's needs can't be met in a pelleted form nope

You didn't come across as preachy Jen, I think it was aimed at me and the eating cardboard comment.  Again like you, it wasn't meant to be preachy but just taken out of context I think.

I seem to remember our American friends on some of the other boards are completely disgusted with the diet too.  I can't find the list of ingredients but apparently they're not good, and the main ingredient of the vits (gligermins or something) is sugar.  The US glider mill is also selling it as 2 years worth - surely an open pack can't stay fresh for two years?? Huh

I haven't seen a list of ingredients for the glider food but since alot of us use cat food as part of the diet, surely something that has been developed especially for gliders is a good thing?! as long as alot of research has gone into it and it has proven successes.
I am 100% against glider mills but if someone develops a food that they know works (that has been tried and tested elsewhere too) then the fact they work for a mill is kind of a side issue.

Like I said I don't know about this particular food. But we do use 'complete' foods for cats and dogs. So I'm not sure that we can say that glider foods are going to be eternally bad. Eventually with enough research i'm sure that a glider food (whether 100% or lower) will be developed. we have to make sure though that interesting stuff is provided too.

(and just for the record I'm not be preachy, snotty or arsey. Its just an opinion!) Smiley

But the cat bisquits are only a small part of their diet, not 75% of it. We all use other forms of protein, as well, so the bisquits won't even compramise the 25% content. No food could cover all (or even most) they need like this one claims to. If it was being sold as a species specific protein source, that would be a completely different matter Smiley
