Hi, just wondered if anyone can help? Both our gliders are very active and eat well, we seperate them to feed, as one was hogging the food, and got plump!
but the other one is still skinny!! She weighs 60grams. And the fatter one 100grams!!
We have put some oats on with her food for last 3 weeks, not too many, just enough, but no increase!!
They both have

Papaya …………………………….. 4.8:1 + half again (7.2:1)
Mango …………………………….. 0.9:1
Sweet Potato ……………………… 0.8:1
Broccoli …………………………… 0.7:1
Carrots …………………………….. 0.6:1
2.04:1

Papaya …………………………….. 4.8:1 + half again (7.2:1)
Mango …………………………….. 0.9:1
Kiwi ……………………………….. 0.7:1
Plum ………………………………. 0.4:1
Apple ……………………………... 1.0:1
2.04:1

Which we swop every night, plus 6 biccies.

Is that ok? And could there be any reason why shes skinny? Or is that just how she is?

Roo the 'fatter' one clears her bowl, where as Mia the 'skinny' one eats it all, maybe leaves a bit!

many thanks
Gary

60 grams is waay to skinny! my skinniest glider goes from 90 at her lowest to about 100 grams. atm she still has holiday weight form xmas tho (OOPS! Smiley ) so she weighting more 110grams, which is what my skinniest boy weighs. The ideal weight for a glider is about 100-150 grams i beleive, but marie or Jen will have to check that, i get numbers all confuzzled! lol

Try giving her oatmeal with applesauce, you could even slightly warm it tomake it more palantable if you wish but you need to get her weight up.

Have you taken her to the vet to check for parasites too? If they are feeding seperately, and she is polishing off her dinner, she should be gaining weight.

Alot of gliders put weight on in the winter so im quite worried yours weighing so little in the cold. She could be at risk of torpor as her body fat will be quite low and she will be able to feel drafts more then the fatter one, leaving her more open to colds.

Try her with the oatmeal and applesauce and if she stillwont gain the weight, i would recommend a parasite test from the vet.

I hope everythibng goes ok! xxx

Thanks for your fast reply!
she did get Torpor, which is where it started. Which we got her sorted from, and was HORRID.
We have the heating up at the moment.
One always has been bigger, but she seemed to loose weight in Jan, thats when the 'fatter' one was nicking her food.
I will speck to our vet, but we dont know of one that specilises in them in Norfolk! but I did worry she had something stopping her gaining weight.
Do we mix the oats and applesause every night for a week? as well as the normal diet?
They are both girls, so she is 40grams off a good weight.
She has a good coat etc.

Bit more info! Which I should have checked!! We had them checked about a month ago, because one had a lump (been a bad start to the year for them!) which we had sorted by the vet.
They weighed them at 100 and 60, Ive just weighed them and Mia is up to 76gms!! Which is much better! And Roo is 96 gms.
So better, but still not perfect! So she is gaining weight! Which is great! i will weigh them again in 2weeks, if its not up enough, then vets.

Give her the oatmeal and applesauce as well as her normal diet.  When I mix it up seperately I tend to give a teaspoon of oatmeal, about a quarter teaspoon of applesauce, and add boiled water.

The 'ideal' weights are from 80g to 150g, females should be around the lower end and males the higher.

It's great she's gaining, you don't want her to gain too quickly, it's bad for humans to rapidly gain (or lose) weight and it's the same for them. Smiley

Brilliant!! So she is near the low end!! brilliant! So pleased she has gained weight!
She also has bonded with us more recently, she jumps on us when we open the cage! And the Roo who was VERY shy has now taken to jumping on us to!!
Been a strange year with them already with torpor and weight being low, then a lump, but after it all they seem to be so much more bonded with us and happier.
So fingers crossed, they will be better for the year!
Thanks for your info its such a help!
