I have been looking into giving 2 female sugar gliders a home at mine. I can give it everything it need's the time the care the food and the room. my concern is the noise (other ppl in house). I was wondering if it would be suitable for the sugar gliders if i partition apart of my room aprox-(1 metre wide x 2 meters long) house a 30"wide x 24" deep x 60" long (inchs) cage. it has a small window (no breeze) with black out curtains.im thinks of fitting a thick fire door an double both side's with 12.5mm sound sheild plasterboard, and plenty of insulation.Would this help with the barking. any feed back off someone who own's sugar glider's would be appreciated

Hi, what height is the cage? They need 4ft high at least because they're arboreal.
The noise isn't too bad if you're a heavy sleeper, they don't bark constantly every night, in fact some gliders don't bark much at all. I think your plans for 12mm sound sheild plasterboard would keep the noise contained and should keep the room insulated too.

I don't know that any amount of insulation could keep the noise out from one of my boys (Although I do have nine SG's). He barks all night untill I go in and play with him and then starts again when I leave! I think it depends on the Suggie.

Haha, he's got you well trained! Word of advice Ben, if they bark don't give them attention! They're clever little sods and learn that their barking is rewarded, so don't reward them!

the problem seem's to be that no sugar glider is the same, i was thinking bout what you said about not giving them the attention when they bark that's a good starting point. I'm gonna build the wall up soon an see how much sound travel's thru last thing i wanna do is buy a pair then have to get rid of them because of the noise, if i dont think the wall will reduce the sound enough may just have to wait till i get my own house. I gotta say tho i want them now lol

Mine bark like clockwork aroung the full moon! Can hear them anywhere around the flat though, unless i close a couple of doors, loud buggers Never give them treats or anything, i just think they like the sound of their own voice lol

I like their noises as well! Especially their happy eating one! Although sometimes i think they could have better timing.... 3 o clock in the morning when i have to be up for work is not always ideal to bark at each other Part of their charm haha!

i only have one who barks and he only barks if something is wrong. e has me trained cos i will get up for him, but he calms down if i do. he used to be awful before hand. would bark really loudly for 3 hours straight and wouldnt calm down. now, all it takes is a kiss on the head, and put back in his nest and he asleep. the worst noise for me is the noise of the wheel braying against the bars! lol

Lots of gliders react to the full moon whether it's increased or decreased activity, apetite, or noise. It's a common phenomenon.

mine are fairly quiet. barking only happened twice, the happy eating noise and every now and again I hear Lara making like a crying noise. I think its to get my attention more than anything & yep she got me trained aswell. I caught Neo running up my Stairs this morning, cheeky glider thought I wouldnt notice him disappearing to my bedroom, i thought it had gone quiet running around my Sofa as id let my door slightly ajar

I love my sugar gliders noise. I find it kind of calmingly cute. Espeacially now that one of my kittens have decided she is a sugar glider, and keeps trying to copy the happy feeding chirp when shes playful.
:sg:
Mine bark once a week, But its only the dominant female, The male is alot more calm and doesnt make much noise at all.
