Ok so in my last post I said i will be hopefully getting a pair of gliders end of september/october time and the man i am getting them off sells his pairs at £300 for hand reared babies and £200-£250 for parent reared babies now if i was to go with the parent reared babies would there be a massive difference in bonding and general personality (aggressive or not)
Thanks  Roll Eyes

I guess he does which i thought was a bit odd but iv asked him if he meant he handles them or hand reared as im sure its a wrong choice to hand rear an animal on purpose. Hopefully he just meant handling them...

Yeah let's hope so, animals should only be pulled as a last resort. If you put the hard work into handling them when you get them then they will become very tame without the need for hand rearing.

Handrearing is completely unethical, there are people on here that have incredibly friendly and well bonded, parent reared gliders.

Go for the parent reared - actually, personally, I'd find another breeder with ethical practices but that's just me  Roll Eyes lol!

Agree with what Mark has said on this one, a breeder who pulls babies on purpose and then charges more money for them isn't a breeder I'd recommend.  Spend enough time socialising with your furballs and they will be as tame as anything, you'll get out what you put in.

Well i got a reply and he doesnt handle his parent reared babies at all which is very odd and he really wants me to buy the hand reared babies  Sad so if i was to get babies that havent been handled would this effect their attitudes toward me?
I may just find another breeder its a shame as its close by.

It all depends on how tame the parents are, the joeys learn their behavior off their parents, so if mum and dad are psycho gliders then it's probable that the joeys will be less than friendly.

The breeder sounds like an absolute moron! Besides the ethical side of things, he's creating so much more work for himself for an extra £50!  Feeding every 2 hours day and night, well, read the handrearing sticky in the breeding section and you'll see what he's doing (assuming he's doing it properly).   Socialising joeys is easy, and fun because they're so adorable, it only takes a few minutes a night!

Yeah its all very strange i dont know why he would make so much work for himself and i dont understand why he doesnt handle the parent reared joeys even for a little while each night its not difficult! im definitely going to wait hopefully something will come up soon and il have a couple of healthy happy gliders *fingers crossed*
