The glider booster is exotic nutrition. Gliderade is not a main part of the diet it is only a treat to keep the diet interesting and it is only fed in small amounts, 1 teaspoon of powder/5 of water per pair. Nectar is something gliders would eat in the wild which is also why it's added, along with pollen and acacia gum.
The acacia gum for instance helps keep the gut movements flowing, it's great for constipation and gliders have an elongated caecum specifically for digesting gum. It's something other animals do not have, if it's there why not use it?
The bee pollen is stacked full of calcium and is a complete protein, I thought about substituting the cat biscuits for it at one point but then I remembered that it's important to have a crunch for oral health so dismissed the idea.
I'm not totally against sugar, it's the quantity of it in the leadbeater diets that I oppose. To cut out sugar further, I give my gliders mainly veg, they do get some fruit but it is mostly veg. In fact that's one of the things I intend to do during the holidays, a new recipe sheet with alot more veg in them
