Do you HAVE to neuter them?

We have two boys, which came as a surprise because we were told that they were girls. We think that they are father and son, but the person we got them off has clearly been giving us unreliable info. Anyway my other half is worried that two males will fight with each other and could cause some major damage. Now I haven’t witnessed any proper violence other than them occasionally grabbing each others tails and getting annoyed with each other because of it, but obviously I care about their health. So is it ok to keep two unneutered male sugar gliders in the same cage? And if not, then will neutering one solve the problem or do I HAVE to neuter both? … I don’t really like the idea of neutering. Does anyone have any good advise for me?
thanks x

Hi there, glad you came and asked your question. Sorry to hear that the person you got your gliders off has let you down about their sexes, really this shouldn't happen as if they are both un neutered then it's really simple to sex. Why don't you like the sound of neutering? Personally I would get them both neutered. It's possible that 2 raised together can live together but there's always a chance something can happen. I have 2 twins that were raised in my group and they would constantly bicker and fight, once they were neutered the whole group changed and became alot happier and calmer. There still is the odd fight but not as much as before. You mentioned that they grab each others tails, this can be a problem too as tail nipping is a real pain and can cause damage to their tails. Hope that helped.

If they are tail nipping then I would seriously recommend neutering, you could end up with a broken tail or a wound that will cause the end of the tail to die a drop off.
Neutering is a quick op, my vet can have them in an out in half an hour. If you follow the guidelines on the forum it should be a quick uneventful and short recovery period.

This is Kirstens boyfriend.
I was worried about getting ours done, mainly because I knew I wouldn't like it if it happened too me!
However, they were always winding each other. Megatron would chase Gizmo round the cage when food was about and was becoming a bit of a nuisance.
We got them all sorted and there have been no problems since apart from the night we got them home and couldn't get Gizmo's bandage off his leg!

Always thought that's why the cat problem started being sorted first before the dog problem.CPL run by women...cats spayed and neutered free for years,RSPCA run by men...only just catching up
