hello all!! im new to this website! i was very happy to find a UK based website, forum and fluffy lovers!  Grin I have spent a lot of time on the american sugarglider sites like glidercentral.net and they have been so lovely and helpful but it's always nice to have some more friends closer to home! I have two fluffies called stinky and whiffy (mr stinkers and the whiffmeister general) or alternatively when they're on best behavious, or as my mum calls them; percy and jack.  Smiley
i signed up because not only would I like to meet other fellow fluffy lovers but also I need some advice at the moment. Stinky has for the last 2 days had his weewillywinkie hanging out. At first I was particularly worried as it was out further than I had ever seen before, maybe an inch or more  Shocked I didnt know they were so long! I have done lots of research and read lots of really interesting and helpful forums including the one on here titled 'prolapsed penis?'. I just want a few more opinions.
Here are the details that I'm sure will help you to help me: Stinky is about 4 years old now. Recently (the last 2 weeks) he has become a ultra hyper and total kamikaze dare devil fluffy... doing mad stunts and being so energetic. He is eating heathily and drinking and his usual bright eyed chirpy self. Stinky and Whiffy are brothers and not neutered, as far as I know they have never shared with or met another sugarglider since leaving mummy fluffy. Stinky is definitely the dominant male, his gland patches are much bigger than whiffy's and he seems to be boss. Not last night but the night before I noticed his woohoo hanging out his behind and not retracting. It didnt seem to bother him, he is still weeing and pooing no problem. In fact he pays no attention to it whatsoever, no licking or flossing. It has retracted a bit and is now only hanging out a few mm but I am still worried. There is no discolouration on the fork, main bit or cloaca and it is not dry. Some sites said to put KY jelly on it, I will go get some first thing tmoro but meanwhile I put a tiny bit of vaseline on it, I hope that wont do any harm.
I have read many things with regards to what it may be; urinary infection/ dehydration/ serious prolapse/ just a horny fluffy... I hope it is the last option! Apparently this time of year they often become lil horndogs..  Embarrassed
Anyway please give me any opinions or tips, im a worried mummy. I'll do anything for my little ones!
Thanks!

Hi, welcome to SGF.  It's a lot quieter than GC but we're not as big as the US.

The time of year shouldn't affect our suggies libido in captivity, unless of course we alter air pressures, humidity, food patterns, light patterns (which happens anyway) to mimic the breeding season of their wild cousins.  Captive suggies breed all year round, the gliders in the wild don't.

Vaseline is a no no, it is sticky and petroleum based, it can cause little bits of dirt to get stuck to the penis and when it does retract that can cause irritation.  KY jelly is definately the way to go.

Don't worry too much if it has retracted most of the way, a couple of days of KY should sort the rest out.  If it becomes inflammed, red, or continues to hang a long way out, or toilet habits are affected then a vet visit is in order.

hello again! I posted in the health forum on my other post but Im not sure if it is showing up, I'd like some advice asap if poss... Stinky has been back to himself and all better up until 2 days ago when i noticed that on one of the tips of the fork there is a tiny black dot that wont come off. I seem to remember that any discolouration is really serious... I know its a tiny dot but Im a concerned mum! I've phoned vet but she hasnt got back to me yet.
Any ideas? Im KYing again as before.
Thanks,
Gen

If it keeps recurring then you need to take him to the vets to find out why.  Sometimes a gliders winkie pokes out it's not a problem, but if it keeps recurring and you keep having to lubricate it to get it back in then there could be a problem.
