I'm sure many people on this forum will tell you what a tragic and heartbreaking experience it can be to breed, and it's definitely not something to rush into, especially if you are new to gliders themselves. There is plenty of information to help you out of this forum though, and I would highly recommend you read this:

Hope that helps =]

you shouldn't even consider breeding gliders until you have a good, sound knowledge of them.  Rauken (bert)'s link is to a thread that highlights the pitfalls and is full of terrible experiences.  You should have your gliders for up to 15 years if they are looked after correctly so there is plenty of time, please don't rush in to it!

Just out of curiosity, why would you like to breed gliders?

Maybe just enjoy being a glider parent for a while BEFORE jumping in head first....

well i would like to become a breeder myself in the near future so i want to fine out about it .

People want good quality joeys from someone that can give them advice, you have admitted you know nothing about them, so how can you offer advice to someone that also knows nothing about gliders?  Knowledge comes with experience.

For example, as an ex breeder, I wouldn't have sold a lone glider, one of the most basic requirements is for them to have company.  so whoever you got him from could have just condemned that glider to a miserable life of solitude, is that because s/he didn't know any better or becuase s/he didn't care? Fortunately you are looking for another glider to put with him, but please give it a year or so before you start breeding.  Give yourself time to enjoy suggie parenthood without the stress of breeding.  Get him neutered and find a female, you can then get an intact male later down the line.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but there are already enough breeders out there giving poor advice.  Please, please, please, be one of the good ones and wait for a while.

Exactly as has been said above. Breeding gliders is not the same as breeding rabbits/rats/dogs etc. It is alot harder and takes experienced and responsible owners. If you have just got your glider then im sorry but the last thing you should be thinking about is breeding.

I have had my current gliders for about 3 years ish and and have been around gliders for about 8 years thanks to family and work and i am only now considering getting a breeding colony established now, only because i know i can cope with all the pitfalls such as rejected gliders and am experienced enough to realise if their is a problem with one of the gliders straight away and what to do in an emergency, but even i would still ask for advise from the more experienced.

As Marie says, there are alot of breeders out there, usually those who know nothing about gliders giving out poor advice. I had to deal with a horrible situation up here thanks to a muppet in a pet shop selling unweaned baby gliders, cos thye didnt have a clue about them.

Get your male neutered and get either another neutered male or a little girly and just enjoy getting used to glider ownership. Just owning gliders is a big responsibilty! Theres nothing ot say that in the future you cannot breed, but please dont consider breeding now! Just cos something can breed doesnt mean it should.
