im getting set up to welcome a couple of sugar gliders into my life im picking up a nice big cage tomorow and a step lader so i cen reach to clean it properly when needed as im only 5 foot lol. iv got 6 pouches, a load of fleece blankets(so plenty spare for wash days), 4 foraging toys and lots of rope toys and vines, 2 feed bowls, a water bottle and a carry cage for when i go to pick my new little friends. i havent yet got any bedding tho have been advised to get aspen bedding, is this the bedding like a substrate for reptiles? or is it something different? i want to make sure im getting the right stuff.

I havent got anything food wise yet as im not sure when im going to get my gliders and dont want to have stuff hanging round for months getting old till i get them, but i have downloaded Maries diet guide so i know what im looking for but again not sure where to get a few of the bits like Glider Booster, Glider Cal, Acacia Gum, Bee pollen, Gliderade or nutriglider.

I have found a vet at the end of my road so nice and close who is used to exotic pets and treats animals in a local zoo and has said he will be happy to take on a couple of sugar gliders if i need to take them in and knows of specialists if anything serious happens.

Hey there, a few answers, where are u putting the aspen? In the base of the cage? Newspaper is probably the easiest. I line the base of the cage and replace it every other day. I know other people just wash their pouches in hot water, I just take out and throw away, they tend to keep it fairly clean other than there scent so I just change mine one a month and put a new one in, saves on any wear and tear too. Marked shop sells all the glider nutrients.

I use ecobed cardboard bedding for mine, you can get it in massive packs and it lasts, here's a link:

I use aspen, horse aspen as its pesticide and chemical free from mole valley farmers, I use it as I love watching the gliders pick it up in their tail, shred it then stick it in their pouch............the pouch is normally full of the stuff in a week. Its also very good at absorbing wee and thrown mush

Ok I am a tad worried now. Should I not be washing the gliders stuff in normal washing powder and fabric conditioner??

Hey Beki, dont worry I use non bio washing powder with mine but I do not bother with softener, its only because I wash my pouches and what not ever 2 weeks and it would cost me a fortune in fleece to replace rather than wash
