Winter is upon us and if it's going to continue with the kind of cruel weather we've had so far then we need to be prepared to make sure our gliders survive.

The obvious answer is turn the heating up but thanks to the greedy gas companies raising their prices despite huge profits, it is now ridiculously expensive to do that. And let's face it, sometimes it's not possible because heating packs in!  So I thought it would be useful to have a thread with hints and tips for keeping your suggies warm.

Over winter I increase their food, I personally don't think it matters too much if they are carrying a little extra weight over winter (not so they are obese though!).

Add oatmeal to their fruit/veg mix, and I also add cooked pasta (on alternative nights).
Add Agave Nectar to their food to keep energy levels up (recommended by Bert aka Rakuen)
Leave them something in the cage all day like cat biscuits or Insectivore Fare
Cover the cage with a sheet to keep the draughts out
Put extra fleece or shredded paper in the cage so they can build a cosy nest
Invest in a Snugglesafe Heating Pad
Make sure you have the necessary supplies in case you do find your suggie unconscious because of the cold and read this thread.

Any other suggestions/recommendations?

Great post, karma Wink

On the colder nights I give mine a little agave nectar with their food to keep their energy levels up.

You can get agave nectar from supermarkets.  It's like honey but instead of being a simple sugar and a quick burst of energy it releases it's energy slowly.  It has a low GI  Smiley

THIS is what you're looking for, it's not with the jams and honey though!  Generally found in the 'allergy' bit where you can buy all the dairy free, wheat free, gluten free stuff Smiley

Thought I'd bump this post up as I think it's very useful and there's been a lot of newbies (incl me, it's my 1stt winter with the girls) which would find this thread very beneficial.

Is fresh egg pasta ok? I find it more yummy than the normal dried stuff but is it suggie safe?
