They live in colonies, so don't "pair up" per say, but they do grieve the loss of a colony member.

I have heard they can go of there food for weeks at a time when they loose a member,,, is this true..

Yes.  Gliders do mourn the loss of a colony member and it's worse if they only had one colony member, as well.  If they're kept in a group of three of more, they have eachother to get over their loss together.
