How long on there own?

Hi  everyone as you may have seen in my intro thread I am taking in a single sugar glider sometime next week from a "friend" of mine who has him on his own in a hamster cage, He had a playmate for a while but she sold her with her babies back in november to make more money.
Anyway I am buying him off her and having to pay out for everything inc a new cage, toys, the lot basically, which of course I don't mind doing but it doesn't leave me with a lot of funds, I know getting a friend is really important but how long can he live on his own with it being really bad, would it be ok to get him a friend in a month or two's time or would it have to be in a couple of weeks?

I want to be a good suggie owner and I am prepared to do what it takes to achieve this but funds are limited.

Each glider is different and will cope with solitude in different ways. I think it would probably be best for you to allow him to adjust to his new surroundings, large cage and new slaves (you) for a couple of weeks before you add another shock to his life. 

Once you have introduced him to his new cage keep an eye on him, he may display repetitive behaviours which is something he will probably be doing due to his small cage and it's habit forming so may transfer with him.  We'll tackle that if and when

Just get him a friend as soon as you can, will you be getting him neutered?  If so then you will need to keep him separate from a female for a month anyway to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
