I have seen a few comments on here regarding ameyzoo and thought i would share my experience of them on here to help anyone making a decision about where to buy there gliders.

I first contacted mark at ameyzoo about getting a female from him to introduce to my male, he told me he would have some ready in 3 weeks. After 4 weeks i rang back to ask, i was told they had just sold 2 females to a zoo i asked why i wasn't informed and told "The zoo payed £250 each, how much were you going to pay ? me: £125, the price you told me, ameyzoo: well there's your reason "

Rude, and not very customer friendly but fair enough.

2 weeks later i rung again to be told they only had a 9 month old which was too young to introduce to my male, i asked to take her but keep her separate, give her time to get to know me before she met my male. I was told this was fine and arranged a time to come and collect her. I spent this time buying and kitting out a 2nd cage ready for her arrival.

When i arrived at the shop i was given a female in a travel box and told by the assistant " Here she is, 18 months old and a proven mother " I said there must be some mistake and asked if mark was in the shop " Hes filming " ( Get used to hearing this if you choose ameyzoo ! ) I rung mark and he said that she was better and i was getting a really good deal ( Forgetting the 2nd cage and accessories id shelled out for on his instruction ! ) he made me feel stupid for even questioning his superior knowledge and motives !

Skip forward 3 weeks and i noticed that Lola ( the female from ameyzoo ) was carrying a joey in her pouch, she hadn't been with my male long enough for it to be his so i rung ameyzoo,

Me : " Hi i was just ringing to see if the female you sold me could have been pregnant ? "

Mark : " Yes "

Me : " Well that confirms it then "

Mark : " You got a good deal "

Me : " Oh, did i ? "

Mark : " 2 for the price of 1 "

Me : Well im just worried my male wont be happy with a another males joey, could he turn on it ? "

Mark : " Yeah he will probably rip its head off, hes the alpha male, anyway ive got to go " ( Hangs up )

Not really what i was hoping for, he seems to think people just want gliders as cash cows to produce more little cash cows. If my glider was pregnant and had given birth before at 18 months then she has been bred with no break since she was old enough ! Luckily she is with me now and wont be kept for constant breeding.

Mark at ameyzoo is arrogant and downright rude, he seems to think hes above everyone on gliders but i have received better and more help from Marie and the other members of this forum so i wouldn't believe that. He also makes no secret of the fact that his gliders are not hand tamed and don't even have human contact so not ideal really when he is selling them as pets.

I must say in fairness that lola is in good health and was no problem in introducing to my male.

Sorry its so long ! Hopefully this is helpful to people looking for glider breeders !

This disgusts me!!!  However, nothing surprises me when it comes to Mark!  Oh, actually I was surprised when you said "He also makes no secret of the fact that his gliders are not hand tamed and don't even have human contact so not ideal really when he is selling them as pets", because normally he tells people they're dog tame!  He has told people on here that the glider is curled up fast asleep in his hands at that moment!

Thanks for posting your experiences!

That's horrendous, how do people get away treating animals (and customers) in that way?
we're currently looking into getting a pair of gliders and this ameyzoo certainly won't be getting a look in!
despicable behaviour! (GRR)

AMEYZOO this it the first time i heard of that name but i have heard of mark before what a story

first off i now know that i will not be getting my gliders from mark as i wish to keep 2 girls to spoil
not to breed and i would be heart broken if someone sold me a female pregnant its not a deal its wrong to
move any animal to another home when pregnant

as for customer service i have worked in retail and changed carrer not that long ago but if any of my staff were to treat any of my customers that way i would have found a way to sack them because customers are the ppl who keep you going not staff

Im sorry to hear about your experience but im pleased that it wasnt just us who got the condescending chat and made to feel Like total pratts. We went to Ameyzoo about 18 months ago looking to pick up some African Fat tail geckos and Mark spouted off at us for bout 20 minutes!! After he imparted his "wisdom" on us and finished telling us that everything we were doing with our reptiles was wrong. I let him know my thoughts about his shop, staff, zoological qaulifications and his customer care. Needless to say we arent welcome there anymore. I have also made sure every customer i have sold to (lizards) knows to avoid the shop and advice given there unless they want to be preached at by a misguided buffoon.

OMG!!  What did you say to him?   Grin

If you want a good shop with fantastic customer service down that way then pay a visit to Wrigglies in Dunstable, they're really good friends of ours and Marc actually used to work for Mark a number of years ago!  Needless to say he has a very low opinion of Mr A!

holy cr@p this guy has some archaic / wildly bizzare / completely wrong ideas about animal husbandry   Shocked
i just had a quick look at some of the caresheets for various sp on his website & some of the stuff is dangerously off the mark !
i hope not too many people use his site as a reference tool when thinking of getting a new animal  Undecided

Sadly, he seems to be well in with the powers that be!!  He's always giving lectures for The Pet Care Trust, and at pet trade shows!  Pees me right off!  I'm so tempted to wirte to them and suggest they send someone in to his shop unannounced!  Like a mystery shopper!

Critterkeeper, I dare you to phone him up and challenge him!!   Smiley

never dare a fool  Cheesy

im not averse to having all out "discussions" with shop owners over their ineptitude & the p1ss poor advise they hand out to the uneducated

im not welcome back in a couple of shops   Tongue
unfortunately as long as they keep turning a profit many will never change .

the fact that this guy is well connected has probably made him worse , he has a reputation with the powers that be so therefore can do no wrong , so he probably feels untouchable .

Well it seems like ameyzoo was right about one thing, I found my male freddy eating the remains of lolas Joey yesterday it was her crying that alerted me too it, probably one of the most awful things I've ever seen and totally avoidable if mark wasn't so motivated by money. Lola seems quite upset now, will she get over this and will it affect her feelings towards my male ? I implore anyone reading this to avoid ameyzoo if you want to avoid something as horrible as this.

( I do understand that gliders cannibalise anyway but I can't help feeling that if Lola wasn't pregnant with another males Joey then things may have gone differently )
R.I.P the joey I never knew.
