Hi
i will be booking a appointment to take Mungo to the vets. he has had what looked like an eye infection which cleared up with antibiotic eye cream.
Unfortunately its runny again and his mouth seems uncomfortable, i think he might have a loose tooth, one of the big ones at the bottom, i swear its moving around!
Mungo is from my first pair of sugar gliders and had been on a very very poor and sweet diet.
he is still very stained and my "orange" glider.
Has any one had this tooth problem?
i have started to blend all his food, he is very dainty and needs to put on some weight.
poor little man  Cry

I've never had an issue with the front teeth. It's usually back teeth that cause issues with the eye.

For weight gain have you tried using oatmeal?  Depending on the situation, there are two ways to feed it, either add it to their fruit mush or put a teaspoon of oatmeal in to a shallow dish and add boiled water and apple sauce/hone/agave nectar to sweeten it up.

Hi all,

just back from the vets. Mungo is going in on Monday to have his mouth checked out and any loose teeth removed. his front teeth are loose, poor wee man.
I will start adding oatmeal to his blended diet.
I will keep you up to date on his progress.Fingers crossed he is OK with the anesthetic.

Hi all,
I never got to speak to the vet who operated on mungo today but he has removed one of his upper molars and left his loose bottom incisor in. not sure why? or if there were any other loose ones.
He goes back next Wednesday to check on his progress. he is up having his food now, and seems perky enough. i start him on baytril tomorrow morning. i hope he's feels a bit more comfortable now.

Baytril tastes rank!  Good luck getting it in him Wink Use something super sweet (like honey) to hide it in....

Mungo had his checkup on Wednesday. the vet was very pleased with how well his mouth had improved. apparently although his bottom incisors were loose he also had a lot of tarter build up on them which the vet scraped away hoping they would improve. he did remove a upper molar.
Mungo has also put on a little weight since his visit.

At first Mungo spat out the baytril until i mixed it 50/50 with honey and then he enjoyed it.

the vet said Mungo may have to have his teeth clean every now and again to keep them healthy. at the moment i am offering a complete blended diet for him (including blended iams) and the usual diet for his missus who still likes to crunch! hopefully he will be able to enjoy solid food again.

Don't blend your Iams....  The crunch should help keep his teeth clean.

He will only eat blended food, he avoids anything that he has to chew on even pine nuts so he needs his protein in a blended form. i still put dry iams into his cage which his "wife" eats. perhaps in time when his mouth improves he will eat it too.

His mouth was probably sore before, so he didn't want any crunch. Maybe now he'll go for unblended iams. For the time being, I'd put his iams on top of his fruit/veg mush, so it goes a bit softer.

I was gonna say the same thing as Amalthea.... try putting the iams on top of the fruit/veg mix so they go a bit softer. Put the softer iams in the cage when you give the crunchy ones so they both have them at the same time and so there's no squabbles for the iams!!
