i recently bought one of those hand blender things that mushes up the food but doesnt liquify it and ive used it twice now and the suggies hardly ate any of the food? but when i didnt use it they ate all of it?? both times it was food that they have had before and that they like. is there an explanation or is it just pure coincidence that they didnt eat much??

i as yet dont have a food processor for the suggy food ,
i just use a wand blender (think its the same thing you used) & ive yet to have a problem
the sweet potato & butternut squash are the most difficult to mush up but a bit of effort gets em pretty well pureed

I blend mine in a food processor, my two won't eat if it's chunky. They'll take berries from me and eat them for a while before they lose interest and drop them!! Then I'll find them in the same place in the morning! lol

if you just keep the hand blender running it turns it into a liquid the same as a blender, just keep moving it round.

you don't necessarily need to liquidise it all, I do it so my gliders cannot pick out their faves etc. but if yours like to eat chunky, feed them chunky - just keep an eye to make sure they are eating a balanced diet.

well thats why i bought it because they pick out their faves so if i keep the blender in there longer then hopefully they will eat more and wont pick stuff out Smiley

i tend to add quite a bit liquid to get the right constancy, either water or a non citrus fruit juice.

i find that papaya & mango once theyve been wizzed up provides all the added moisture needed , & they feature in pretty much most menus here

Ahhh, fair enough! lol perhaps as an occassional thing and maybe to get them used to no chunks, add a small amount of honey to entice them or maybe add some mealworms (buried amongst the fruit/veg mix) so they have to rummage through the food to get to them. If this doesn't work, perservere with liquidising it as they'll soon get used to it... tough love and all that lol

well i think the first couple of times i used it, i didnt put enough moisture in it so maybe they didn't like it because it was dryish so tonight i have put quite a bit of water in it and the blender went more smoothly and i kept it in there longer so its pretty much liduid. whether they will eat all of it, i will have to wait till morning Smiley

i'll keep ya updated

well i thought id upgrade from the hand blender thing & get a proper blender jobby .
threw the papaya in & voila 3 seconds later perfect  Cool
same with mango  Cool
then time for the butternut squash , threw a few chunks in & watched em bounce around like bingo balls  Undecided
they then stuck to the sides & every shake of the blender just dropped the chunks back on the blades for another bounce round the jug  Huh
15 minutes & much sweating & panting i had some slightly diced squash  Angry

so back to the cheapo hand thing & had it done in 10 minutes !
the blender jobby was ok after everything was properly mushed just to make up the finished recipe but otherwise its crap !

anyone have a blender /processor that will actually turn sweet potato & squash etc to a pulp ?
cos i could do with something that does the job in a wink & doesnt become nuclear like the hand blender does

my food processor does!! it's brill, and it's even about 10-12 years old. Sweet potato and butternut are not a problem. How large are the chunks you are putting in?
