 Embarrassed so here it begins!!

we purchased our 1st set of Sugar gliders last tues night from what we believed to be someone who knew what they were on about!  Shocked unfortunately she didn't have a notion!

she told us that we were buying a pair that were father and daughter and that they had been together for a year and had not bred! she also told us that they only breed once a year and that was feb -april!  Shocked

we were not looking to breed and after researching on the internet and on here and also finding a local vet who deals with Suggies i was going to get the male neutered! Last night however when we were bonding with them we noticed 2 little shapes in the cage pouch! Shocked after further investigation we have 2 little joeys, i have looked up and i think they are approx 10 weeks old! really need to know what to do next as kind of feel that we have been thrown in the deep end and am scared that something is wrong or will go wrong!  Undecided

The vet that i am going to use just happens to be on holiday till monday and no one else in the surgery ahs 1st hand experience with them! Sad

can anyone on here put our minds at ease until then? Huh

Firstly im sorry you got let down by the perspn you purchased your gliders from.  Did the person show you the gliders when you bought them, as if you only got them last tuesday then when she moved them she would of seen the joeys haning out of the pouch, they are that big when they come out of pouch that there is no way you wouldnt notice.  Get in touch back with the person you got them off just to let them know how unhappy you are with them.  It is best to get your male snipped ASAP but (others may disagree with me here) as your gliders are new to you and new parents unless you can catch the male without interfering with the female then i would leave it a little bit as the stress of him being caught is likely for them to eat the young.

hey, thanks for your imput! Smiley i am going to get him neutered asap but they seam very very close atm so dont want to cause them any upset!

the lady we got them from did never handle them unless she had a towel round them and she gave us the cage that they had been in with them!! probably our fault but as we are new to this we didnt think to mistrust her! she seamed to know at the time alot about them so we took her word! Embarrassed

when we got them home she seamed to be smaller than the male so we didnt for one min expect this to happen! we were feeding them per her instructions but maybe giving them a better diet and just though she was thriving on the food, only noticed her getting a little fatter on sunday then last night when we brought them out to feed them some meal worms we noticed the 2 little joeys( about the size of an unshelled peanut) on her tummy! we cant see the joeys unless she has them out! Huh but they have a little fur, their eyes arent open and she seams to be doing a good job so far!!  Smiley

dont really want to contact her again as we want to keep them but i will take all the advice off here and then phone my vet 1st thing monday when he returns off his holidays!

hope that is the right thing to do as i really am being thrown in the deep end here!! Roll Eyes

Hi,
Congratulations!.
the same thing happened to me, mine had been kept on a very poor diet and were a year and a half old when i bought them. the lady i bought them from said they had never produced a joey.
i noticed the female had a tiny joey and i suppose with the improved diet i gave them she kept him (she must have cannibalized all the others through lack of protein etc).
Try not to stress your little family too much. i don't touch my new babies until they are 4-5 weeks OOP but everyone has different ideas.

Congrats

I used to call it that stage too LOL super cute joeys you have there, all I will say is a nice healthy diet and make sure there is at least 2 pouches in the cage, when they get a little older sometimes mum likes to dump them in a pouch for half hour while she runs about, this is especially true when they are at the fully OOP stage and it looks like her eyes should be watering when they keep trying to get back in. Also you may find the male every now and again vanishes to a different pouch, but he will do alot of the caring for the LOs which is lovely
