So Oliver my male rescue sugar is really ill, I think he might have a blockage in his gut, as despite feeding him acacia gum and some pumpkin he still hasn't passed anything, and his stomach is huge. I woke up this morning and he was awake but pretty cold to the touch so I've got an appointment with the my vet today so I'm hoping he'll be ok... Wish us luck everyone  |

Thanks lovelies, I think he's going to be ok. The vet thinks it is cystitis as there was lots of blood in his urine. It was quite funny actually, he gave a slight squeeze to the abdomen, and it was as if he was being milked -pee everywhere!
Treatment consists of a couple of antibiotic injections, and baytril given orally. I'm hoping he'll be ok, his stomach is still pretty swollen though

Thanks for the heads up Jen bless him he was SO good when he was getting his injections, didn't even squirm, just a little flinch! I was running late this morning, and he was also very obliging taking down his baytril as I syringed it at the back of his mouth so I don't think he tasted much of it. He is so well behaved! Considering the horrible things this little one has been through, I don't actually think I could ask for a nicer suggie  |

Another note for you, give LO some live yoghurt when he is a little better for a while as it will replace the gut flora the ABs will be damaging/killing off. It will stop any other nasties jumping on board while he is left with little natural defense

Ollie passed away last night  I can't stop crying, his missus is still with us, and very much healthy but really nervy, and obviously distressed, she keeps crabbing. I don't really understand what happened as he seemed a lot better, and he'd even started passing solids again, I think it must have just been a bit too much for him, as he was still underweight. |
