Ok, so after consulting with my rather hunky exotic vet in Sheffield I have been quoted an eye watering £120 for a single castration, or £100 for multiple -OUWCH! Anyone know of any better value vets in or around sheffield? I'm happy to travel (though I don't drive, so it will be via public transport) as it will still be cheaper than to pay £200 -eeek!

Their reasoning for such a high quote was:
"We use sevoflo for anaesthetic. This is what they use on children and is far safer than ISO for exotic mammals." and that as suggies breath faster they use up more gas than other animals (BUT THEY HAVE TINY LUNGS!)
As easy on the eye as my vet may be I am reluctant to go to them for anything bar emergencies!

That's a lot of money!
how much gas can one sugar glider use in the few moments it takes to get the job done Huh it must cost thousands for a large dog!

I was quoted £40-£50 but am up in Scotland.
I would go for a uglier vet with a more attractive price any time Wink!

Nell, doing the conversion, that's right around what I paid for each of my neuters here - luckily I have only had 3 done as one boy came to me already done.  It's actually one of the main reasons I have mostly girls.  We don't have too many exotic vets who will handle sugar gliders near me.  Some of my friends in other parts of the US only pay about 40-50 pounds (converted again).

We are one of the more expensive in the country and ours is only £58.50 per glider. I think the average is about £50, I think you need to do some looking around tbh as there is no way in hell your vet should be allowed to double the price for stupid excuses such as that.

For anyone in Sheffield looking for a less extortionate castration, I've now found the place! Broomhill Veterinary practice quoted me around £36 a snip. They've not done the procedure before but they've done a lot of research, and are in contact with vets that do so regularly. They have a large APH clientele, so are used to dealing with exotics, but don't charge a Premium like the Ark do.

Edit: I have since used this veterinary practice on a number of occasions and the vet there has done extensive research for me, going above and beyond what I would expect so I would definitely recommend them. We have our male joey booked in for a castration there in early March Smiley
