We  have had a stroke of good luck with a trusted freind starting a new job at the at our local animal reception centre. We have known him from old and he actually comes and lives at our house when we are away and babysits the gliders. This means there is now someone we would trust in qaurantine to look after gliders and we are activly looking to import Leucistic, Mosaics among other types of gliders. i am awaiitng a note from Defra around the specific requirments and if this will change post April. It doesnt seem rabies vaccinations and microchipping is going to cut the mustard and qaurantine is still going to be required.

We have the costs down and have tracked down a few breeders but to get the most out of this need to be looking to ship 5-6 gliders. To this end i need to either come up with a breeder in the US that will have htis many joeys available and can introduce them to eachother well before shipping or need to obtain a couple of groups.

I was just wondering if anyone on here might know of any reputbale breeders (not farms) in the USA with healthy glider Joeys available?

At this stage I have the money sorted and an animal transport company that look to be able to provide a safe transfer,  a trusted peron in qaurantine this side so its the US side I need some advice with.

Thanks

I would have done it by now had the breeder have been reputable, turned out to be a farm.

Cry Grr. Would have been great to have some over here. Thank god you found out Marie. Being in a different country so far away i imagine it's hard to tell a reputable breeder from the rest

Its the same problem I have come up against. I do have a number of possible family breeders but I was trying to avoid flying over to co-ordinate between three groups by using one central breeder. I certainly dont intend to line the pockets of  a farm in my efforts. Thought this might be a good place to ask if anyone new of a good breeder who might have this number and variety of gliders in one place as I know some on here have links with the states. I think Laura is going to be happy as its looking like we might need to get the ball rolling with a few breeders and then make the trip over. There is a chance my animal courier might do this for me but im not sure I want to put that much faith in them.

Unfortunately, most leu breeders have a waiting list as long as your arm!  Having looked in to it in great detail for many years ... it's not as easy as you're hoping, if it was it would have been done a loooooooong time ago!

True Ive been in contact with three seperate breeders and have secured 5 gliders on proviso deposits are paid by mid next week and it looks like from what your saying im going to have to go with the gliders ive managed to get rather than a central breeder. The main issue is that for qaurantine issues its going to cost an extra £1130 to split the cages in to three as opposed to bringing all six in together but I wont have the oppurtunity to introduce them over there. We will have to secure them and fly over to completete the paperwork and collect them. Im hoping defra come back by Tuesday with good news and I might be able to avoid soem of the red tape.

Yeah its exciting but nerve racking the money situation quickly runs away from you when you get your shopping list out and the first numbers Ive had around transport qaurantine, vets and paperwork is coming in at £3000 before you have paid for the gliders  Roll Eyes

just a quick question,
with this small (but very expensive) number of coloured gliders you plan to bring to the UK will that be enough breeding stock to keep the colours?
i don't understand all the genetics, but they would have to be out-crossed with the existing UK gliders to avoid genetic defects?
Have you checked the maths, hope this make sense Huh

I have some friends here in the US that are having a hard time selling their leus because our economy is so horrible right now.  Sad  They're being forced to practically give them away to pet-only homes so that they can at least have a good home.

Yes the Recessive gene in the Cremino and Leus is not going to show colour in all the offspring but will be Het. Im not planning on mass producing but crossing in with standards over here so I done envision selling anything on for quite a while stock is buit up. The mosaic gene is dominant s easier to work with. I got in contact wih someone last night and am looking at:
1 x Mosaic Males
2 x Het Leu Females
1 x Leucistic Male
2 x het creme-ino females

If the transport happens without any ill effects on the gliders Ill be looking to bring 1 (maybe 2) more groups in over the next year.

The price I have had on:

1 x Mosaic Males
2 x Het Leu Females
1 x Leucistic Male
2 x het creme-ino females
1 x creme-ino male

Is $5000 so this is rapidly becoming an expensive venture. I have to admit if I can get this donw to nearer $3000 with all the other costs on top it looks like im going to be tied in for about £8500 when i was hoping for £7000. Sad might need to visit the bank manager on Monday lol
