Found a lady on preloved that is selling 2 males, both a year old. She is selling them because they had a fight and can no longer be housed together. She knows they cant live alone but isn't upto finding them both cage mates and looking after at least 4 gliders rather than just the 2.

Would it be fair just to take the 1 off her and leave the otehr even though they are seperated now? I'm going to give her a ring tomorrow and find out more details. Anything I should ask her in particular?x

You/she could get them both neutered and re introduce them in about a month?

Just got in touch with her tonight. She's sold one of them already, just got 1 left. Intact. I'm wanting to breed my girls just to increase my colony size, they are both 7month old as of nxt wk, the male is 1yr old. The lady said that this is the tamer of the two, apparently he's very friendly. Obviously anyone can say that so i'm going to go and see him next week. Are my girls old enough to be introduced to a male dya reckon?x

For breeding, I'd wait until the girls are about a year old to give them chance to mature and fill out first.  There are a lot of breeders around that will breed them too early.  You'll have to keep him separate for a while before you physically introduce them anyway.  Do the whole pouch swapping thing, even though he won't have cage mates for a short time he will still have gliders in the same room to communicate with.  So about now is the right sort of time to be looking, by the time you've pouch swapped and introduced etc.  Fingers crossed he is suitable to join your family.   Smiley

Well fingers crossed the new cage should be finished by the end of nxt week. Going to move my girls into there and then i'll have their cage spare for the young man. Got plenty of fleece left over so can make new pouches and cage accessories for the male. He needs quarantining anyway for 2 wk doesn't he? And then i'll have him in a cage next to the girls for about a fortnight. So they'd be more like 9month old once they were introduced. Could always keep him in the cage alone for a little longer aslong as they were in the same room and I gave him extra attention?

I'd hope they wouldn't breed until my girls were at least a year old, are they likely to breed within the first month of being introduced or is that down to the glider?x

Have to agree with Marie about leaving your females about a year before breeding them. I waited 2 years before I got leanard off Marie. You are just getting better results with your bonding too so I would keep up with that.  Gliders are long lived so you can leave it a while then increase your numbers.

My intention really wasn't to breed them younger than 1year old, would they really breed so quickly after introducing? Don't they need to know eachother to a certain degree before the females would let the male breed with them?x

Ohh, little slaaaaaags! Better postpone giving them a boy to play with!

As for the male, the lady says she's having trouble finding a good home for them. She managed to let 1 of them go but she's had the male on his own for a month now. Would it be unfair of me to take him off her and have him in a cage next to my girls for a few months? Obviously giving him as much attention as humanly possible x
