a timid hello

HI there, my name is Kat, I'm 25 and from the west midlands.

Sorry that's so formal.. I'm not really good at introductions... I also apologies for the spelling mistakes.. dyslexia is a cruel thing.

At the moment i have no gliders of my own, and I doubt there will be one in the near future, but one day i would love to own a couple and i am researching and learning and socializing a little in advance. I live with many other fantastic pets though. a skunk and a few African pygmy hedgehogs amongst them.

I like the idea of being able to carry something so beautiful and, if raised correctly, loving about your body while being at work or out and about. My intrigue with these guys came about when i was in a shop and all of a sudden a tiny gray head popped out of a guys pocket and vanished again. At first i thought i had been seeing thing but apparently not as a few moments later it popped out of his coat collar and sat on his shoulder! i would have asked but i didn't get chance and its only been in the last few years i found out what this creature was.

So .. I have started my research and i have ordered a book to read through, it was highly rated on amazon so it seemed a good bet... and now I'm here to learn more if i can. I know i don't have time for a glider yet unless i would be allowed to have them at work with me, but in time to come.. i will own a pair of suggies, when i have knowledge and time to dedicate to them.

That was a great intro!! I'd take any info you learn from the book with a pinch of salt, really...  Just have a good read through the stickies on here and ask any questions you can come up with

Welcome!  I agree, no matter how good the information in the book may be, even that could be outdated - we are all constantly learning new things and better ways to take care of gliders.  If it has good basics, that's great, but definitely keep checking out the newest info online and with experienced glider owners.

You're doing the right thing by researching into them and have come to the right place to do so.
As already mentioned, read through the stickies. Ask any questions (apparently there's no such thing as a daft one, although I'm willing to bet I can prove this wrong)
The thing I found hard to get me head aroung was the diets, but the info given and the recipes are fantastic.
What job do you have? Being nocturnal, if you're working through the day, they're ideal. Mine dont wake til bout 10ish if left to their own devices, but I'm mean and wake mine up at 9ish so I can have a couple of hours playtime with them

I work from 9 till 7 but I run a social thing twice a week away from home also I feel that I currently couldn't offer them enough time due to my other fur babys currently.

 But when times change which they do, I would like a trio. Neutered boys or boy girl mix. I have found a very good cage builder, I have used them many times for rat cages in the past and would highly rate them, unless you can recommend anywhere or anything exceptional. I also know of some excellent carry pouches that are meshed for airflow, zipped for security, and machine washable for accidents.

Diet wise it doesn't seem too different from feeding my skunk, just different ratios. Would definitely need a list of nono foods though bowls and bottles are easy to get, I like the ones you can fix to the bars of the cage for security and fun purposes. The easy clean metal ones that they can use In parrot cages?

Pretty much hun. Getting a purpose built cage is perfect if you have the means, as you can make it big as possible to fit your desired space. Not sure on what skunk diets are but if you've read the sticky I'm guessing your on the right track, especially as you're clearly already dealing with ratios. Look in the housing section for specifics on wire size, what you can/cannot use etc. I'd also recommend Marie's shop for diet supplements/stealth wheels/treats and pouches etc  Lou also does some great cage accesories, check out the recommended sites and you'll find their online shops
