Hello. I am new to gliders (but definitely not animals!!) and so far it has been tough. I got them just over a week ago but sadly after a lot of expensive vet trips and days/nights of nursing the little girl died in her pouch in my bed on Sunday. The little boy is very quiet and only comes out once everyone is in bed :-(. He does seem to enjoy a stroke whilst snoozing but tent time is impossible as he doesn't wake up!!!  I am waiting to get another female for him - hopefully tomorrow.

Just want some reassurance really that the whole glider experience will get a little more interesting once another companion arrives. I feel quite sorry for the little fella at the moment.

sorry to hear that Jbab, completely different animal but my g/f has 5 chinchillas, when we had our 1st breeding pair kiki and scooby, kiki gave birth and all was going well untill kiki got a tooth problem which in the end left us no choice but to put her down. The baby was roaming the cage looking for her and turning to sccoby for comfort but he too was heart broken, didnt want to play wasnt fussed about being stroked and just seemed lifeless. 2days later the baby died that my g/f put down to a broken heart. Scooby then started chewing his fur and he was a prize winning chin for fur quality. we later sold him to a lady who also had 2 chinchillas and 1 died and now scooby is back to his old self bouncing around the cage and randy as hell from what i hear lol gd ole scooby   Grin

Try finding him another partner after all chins and suggies are not that different socially

Gliders mourn the loss of their cagemates.  Your little boy will be confused and lonely.  Give him time to mourn, but in the meantime you need to be sourcing him new friends.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your little girl.  Keeping gliders is a wonderful experience and they will bring you a lot of joy and satisfaction.  I've been keeping for almost 10 years and still love watching them play.

What was wrong with your little girl?

Thanks all. I got some wonderful advice from here whilst she was poorly. She was the lovely lady with the swollen arm and nose withies of sneezing and finally the wet rear end. It was early Sunday morning and I had put her pouch in my bed to warm her up whenshe died.  She was pretty much poorly from the day after we got her just over a week ago so sadly they never really got to 'play'!  He is now quiet butdoes like stroking. Bit nippy tho lol!

Will we ever get to the point where he (hopefully they by the weekend) can come out without hiding under the sofa and the nipping stops? Not been the best intro to gliders but they are beautiful.

Thank you
