Well, here's my experience of Saturday night glider introductions!!!

I had a young female suggie off a friend of mine on Saturday.  The previous night I had a cage set up and ready for her while she settled in, but late Friday night I discovered one of my females have been savaged by her mate, we had to put her in the cage instead and due to the late hour and upset that one of my babies was injured I forgot to set up another cage!  (I would've had to completely build one!)

Saturday Lou bought my new baby girl round and I suddenly realised I had no where to put her!  PANIC!!!  It was getting late in the evening and she had to go in a cage as she was waking up in her pouch.

The only place she could go was into a cage that was already inhabited by my 3 hand reared girlies.  Their introduction (of the 2 younger to the 1 older) was quite unorthodox but they went together so well!

Anyway, I put my new girl into the empty cage (my 3 were in a pouch around my neck) and I put my smallest suggie in first, they saw each other and Lily just wandered off in to a pouch, so I put my medium sized girl in, they saw each other, molly walked upto the newbie sniffed her and immediately started grooming her!!!  So I thought I'd put my oldest girl in, she saw the newbie, walked over to her, did a bit of 'I'm in charge' which consisted of climbing on top of her and then also started grooming her!!!

That evening I kept checking on them and they were absolutely fine, when I fed them I watched to make sure they all ate and they did.  My three were first to the food bowl but the new girl barged her way in, no one complained.

I'm not saying this is a good way to do it, if I was in any doubt of the health of my new girl I wouldn't have done it.  If any of my girls were aggressive I wouldn't have done it either!!! I guess I must have well balanced suggies. Guess where my poor little savaged girl is going once she's all healed??  Smiley

What a heartwarming wee story and thanks for sharing it, Marie Grin
It was very fortunate that your new arrival was accepted by the other 3 and it worked out so well in the end Grin
Would love to hear an update as to how things are? Smiley

(Was the injured female injured by her male mate Huh
Can this be quite a common occurence Huh
WHY does it happen?) Shocked

Everythings great with them 5, Edie (the savaged one) and Dinx are bestest buddies.

It was a mating wound, it's the first time it's happened to any of mine, but it is quite a common occurence I believe, the male holds the female by the scruff of the neck while mating, and sometimes they're a little too rough .
